This manual has been a big help to me:
http://www6.big.or.jp/~budogu/manu/topm.htm

The long himo are the Men himo and should be tied to fourth grill bar from the bottom, on either side, using two fingerlong leatherstraps that you`ve probably received with the bogu.

The two other pairs are for the Do with the shorter ones attached at the bottom and the two feet long, six inches above.

The rings are probably Do buttons, which I don`t have, so I can`t guide you there.

All this is illustrated in the manual and described in more detail.
Don`t forget to tie up the wings on the Men, also described there.

During the night I`ve thought things through and remembered how the Do buttons should work.
Instead of tying the longer himos in front after crossing them on your back, thread the himo through the button, inside to outside, then in again.
Push the button through the leather "hook"?, by your shoulder, and adjust the lenght.
That way you only have to set lenght one time and not worry about position of the Do every practise, as most beginners do, me included.
Also, the Do shouldn`t come loose during Ji-Geiko as often as a poorly tied knot will do.
Lastly, tuck in the loose length of himo inside the Do.

Put the buttons in a drawer, they're for kids. Adults should tie their doh properly.

The referenced manual gives very clear instruction btw, recommended.

That manual looks very good but there is some kind of error so that when I downloaded it all I got was blank pages. Anyone else have a similar problem?

Ben,
You have to delete the hentai that you saved on your hard drive first. Just kidding. You need to have Japanese Language Support set up on properly on your PC.

Get Acrobat Reader 6.0. The first time you open the manual it will recognize the missing japanes language support and ask for automatically downloading and installing it. Very convenient.

This is still the version with Kanji symbols which requires the Acrobat Reader support for Japanese.

AFAIK there is no "pure" english version of this very good manual.

Just go to

then open the Kendo equipment manual.

Hello all,

I had exactly the same problem with the manual last week. I got my copy from http://www.jccckendo.com/kendo/aboutkendo/abequipment.html

The meitokukan manual is nice because it doesn't need the Japanese font pack, but if you try to print it out it's blurry and hard to read. It looks like someone took their paper copy, scanned it and then saved it as a PDF.

To download Adobe's Asian Font pack and get the nice clear original working, just go to
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/acrrasianfontpack.html
and choose to download the pack for "Language: Japanese".

Either you can ask people at your school or you can do whatever you think will work for Halloween.
