Does anyone have any good suggestion where to store the bogu between training. If your are lucky you might be able to store it in a good ventilated place in your dojo, but what if you have to take it home, and your girlfriend doesn't like the smell of stinky men and kote; specially the kote... :nervous:

Actually I recall a guy who used to use that "Fabreez" stuff on his bogu. It didn't stink and he wasn't (as far as I know) irritated by the chemicals.

... thanks...or...
...will try to remember to check for old threads first.

BTW do the deodrizing spray works for bogu that have been used for couple of years and already have got a bad smell??? or does it just work for new bogu, which hasn't aquired the kendo-sweat smell?

The smelly bogu just hasnt been looked after im afraid....i sweat like mad, and sometimes dont unpack my bogu till the day after keiko...but i let my bogu dry when there is a couple of days between keiko and i also use a bit of
anti-bacteral frebreeze and wipe the bogu down with a tenegui before letting it air out (air dry)! Never once have i had an issue with stinky bogu...Sometimes kote can smell, but again, totally avoidable.

Couple of tips:
- Have a shower before keiko as well as after...or at the very least wash your hands well up to your elbows, this will prevent the days mucky build up on your hands, entering your kote in the first place.

-Let the bogu dry in an area where your girlfreind dosnt normally go.

-Deodarizing spray does work, and the popouri pouches in your bogu bag dont sound like a bad idea in an extreme case, but you'll smell like a flower in the kendo club.

get a new girlfriend :D
This is to negative for a kendoka....tsk, tsk, tsk, first, try and get your girlfreind into kendo

Just buy a bottle of Chanel 5 or something she likes and use it to spray all over the room. She will love it.

Good for you, but if I did that, my bogu would end up stinking *alot*.
Stinky bogu is one of the facts of kendo..you can reduce it, but you can't avoid it :)

Have you actually tried this?
I do not have bogu.
However, perfume isn't a good item to cover up a bad odor because it is not a deodorizer, therefore, it will not mask the stench of the bogu but just combine with it and most likely cause nausea. Nausea equals "I want to vomit". She will not love it.

Example? You want a real life example? Foreign college student from Europe with a hairy body who doesn't take a shower for 4 days and uses cologne to cover up his body odor.

Febreeze has always worked nicely for me. It will smell somewhat fruity at first, but the scent wears and it smells like nothing after a day or two.

If the perfume doesn't work, a can of air freshener will work for sure. Hey, it works in the bathroom after a long hard productive s..t, right? If you are a burrito lover, you know what I am talking about.

I will repeat here what I posted long time ago..

Get a fabric bleach ( Clorox ? ) and a spray bottle. Dilute it 10-20 times with water.
Spray inside of Kote and Men after wiping execessive sweat.
Not only it smells good but also it prevents Kote from becoming slimy
when you have to use it again before it's completely dry.
I never had problem with this solution but someone caution that if the
mix is too strong, it might discolor your kote & men. I try not to spray
on the outside anyway.. Hope this helps..

Deodarizing spray does work

Waaaaaaahhh, don't forget what Kendo and life in general is all about:

sweat, screams, leather and hitting people.... har...har...har ;)
