3rd wk? Are you talking about the naginata champ. in San Jose or are you talking about the Kendo champ. in Scottland? Someone in the East coast Federation (I think they were with the New York dojo; sorry I don't remember) was supposed to be making a video ($50) and DVD ($60) of the Naginata championship. If that is what you are looking for go to this link: http://www.ecnf.org/ecnf/ecnf.htm and ask around. Someone is bound to know something about it. Also in another thread somebody ask the same question. Check that out too.

We've ordered the DVD. It's currently still in production, not ready to be shipped out yet.

You know I'm going to be bouncing up and down to watch it when it gets in :)

If you can wait for a few months, we'll have a free one with the magazine, only the finals and semi-finals of each division, maybe more depending on size.

Hey etherknot,
When you get the DVD will you post a littel review about it? I am curious about how it turns out. Oh yeah, if you want to see something funny, watch Kevin Saxton's matches; when he kiais his opponents drop their kamae. We dubbed him the naginata bully.

Can you imagine if someone actually properly setup microphones all around at one of these things and mastered it in like Dolby Digital?! Surround sound kiai! Man that'd probably make most people drop more than their kamae. :D

Go on the New York Naginata website and ask the webmestre I think he's involve in the creation of this DVD.

I got the same announcement. I happened to talk to the producer last night by phone, and he confirmed same; we primarily discussed other matters.

Currently he is working on trimming down the footage from five video cameras to fit into 2-hours of viewing.

To complicate matters, there were some sound quailty issues - in at least one case (Engi), the audio recorded on one camera was used with the video from the others.

There is a lot of post-production work going on here.

HTH.

Man! I can't wait to see it at the end of the year! *pout pout pout*. Selecting footage from more than one camera source though explains the reason why it's taking forever.

But yes I'll definately give a report on it once it arrives in my DVD player.. I mean after watching a few thousand times.

They brought the DVD to the Toronto Naginata seminar. I was able to watch a good portion of it and it really is worth getting.

That was the beta version of the 2nd edition - it has new formatting so that it is easier to follow the scoring during the matches. People who have received the 1st edition will be able to "upgrade" to the 2nd edition (details pending).

Also, John Prough showed parts of the 2004 Kyoto Taikai DVD - Jodo and Kenjutsu. This too will be available soon (details pending).

I have the beta version. My matches were (of course) cut out from the material
