It was very considerate of the kenshi to run into the karateka with the sword held over his head. Fun demo, but I don't think he'd fare so well against a real attack.

and the girls in bikini???
booooring!!!!!
just kidding.
too "kata like" the movements, i dont really think thay in an real fight somebody would use the sword that way asn neil said, anyway, the catching of the sword was something ive never seen for "real" (besides movies and stuff) anyway it doesnt look "real-real"...

Still far better than any aikido vs sword demo I've seen.

made me think tho, if you consider cathing a sword youd think... humph... ya right.
But in kendo relations, would the kenshi's application of tenouchi actually slow down the momentum and allow for somthing like that.
I.e. Sword catching is only possible against a senior kendoka or iaidoka, cos a junior rank without such control would slice your hands off ;)

Hmm, maybe? I thought tenouchi was to add torque to your blow so shime could carve into the respective body part. But your point on how it'd be more dangerous against someone younger is more than valid I think - especially given the whole "jittery kamae" you get from people who're still perfecting their kihon.
If I was crazy enough to run around trying to catch swords, I think I'd be more terrified of the latter. Skill is at least relatively predictable if the opponent's not too cunning.
