Looks like this documentary will be airing in the U.S. on PBS on Oct. 9. (As they say, check you local listings.)

It appears to be the same documentary you can find on YouTube, but it'll be nice to be able to see it on a regular TV.

Looks awesome! Thanks for the info - I haven't seen this yet, and will most certainly be throwing down time to mess around on youtube watching this later!

Did it already air on the West Coast?

I already saw it in french, it strangely had more footage of TSKSR and no silly commentary about the katana being the ultimate sword and that very questionable part with the european sword. Anyway very interesting none the less.

No, but the youtube video was the first time I saw it. Definitely cool stuff :).

If you look on the website, at the bottom of the page, you can click on "program participants" to see who they used for the program. And, I don't understand why they have to call Fumon Tanaka-Soke "Grand Master." Ewwww... Makes him seem like a McDojoka when he's not.
I'll be watching this one for sure. Sounds very interesting! :)
Oh. I did some looking around on Fumon Tanaka because I wanted to learn more about him(Knew very little), and what I found was very interesting. Here's the site if anyone is interested:

Are you talking about Fumon Tanaka-soke? That's who they got a hold of. If so, the website I just posted says he does Enshin Ryu, not Eishin Ryu. :)

A typo that would otherwise lead to an apocalypse of infinitely epic proportions ;)
Seriously though, thanks for the correction :) I've only started M.S.R., and I'd hate to make a further ass out of myself in fuskering someone's lineage with my grammatical butcherings ;)

I just watched it and was really impressed, particularly at how the katana gets its curvature (there was also a poke at Tom Cruise, which can't go wrong in my book ). All in all, quite good.

Where did you see it? On television? I couldn't find it on youtube :(

I watched it last night as well. It actually differed from the youtube version quite significantly. It went into the materials science side of swordmaking in greater depth, as one might expect from NOVA. Very interesting stuff.

I had practice last night so missed it, but I'm hoping they rerun it in my area.
