I used one for a while, after recovering from plantar faciaitis. I found it beneficial for reducing heel pain for two reasons. The first, and obvious, is the slight padding. The second, which was even better, was that it helped me to stay off my heel by giving me advance warning when I was going flat-footed. It sounds a little strange, but I would feel contact with the floor a little sooner because of the pad, before my foot angle had gone completely flat. Sort of like a built in sensei constantly reminding me.

You`d be better off with this one: http://www.e-bogu.com/Delux_Heel_Pad_p/hir-pro-yamaheel-.htm
Or better still, the leather heel pad from Yamaya at the bottom of this page: http://www.eguchi.net/c-1237.html
