I have Nike wristbands, which are about 4-5 inches underneath my right kote, and this helps a lot. Give it a try and see what happens.

Try a kids shinpad on your arm... I use one because I am a wimp.. but if it helps it helps :D
Plus kids shinpad = £2.99
Wrist protector = £10.99

I had the same problem just as i started. And the fact that one of the first practises was against a 6th dan, west-point academy kendo instructor, whose kote hits made _my_ sempais cringe didnt help ;). Suffice it to say, my arm was black, from tips of the fingers half way up towards the elbow.
How i sorted it out ? Kote - protector.
And as you train more kendo, you'll develop that kendo/sushi-cook muscle which will really go a long way to stop you from bruisin'.

Any bogu supply shop sells wrist protector pads. I highly recommend them when you are using old club kote. There's no reason to be injured all the time.

I've got a wrist injury but I find the neoprene tennis supports provide a good bit of protection plus they're easier to get hold of...
