The new site looks great and the forums are so much easier to navigate. I was able to find a lot of threads I had never seen before. Thank you and keep up the good work!

woah! I'm so used to seeing the calming blue style of the site. The black and grey scheme is so, weird and... slick! Doesn't feel like I am logged into the right forum :)
It's nifty!
But, you might want to change the CSS for the footer text as it seems a wee bit too dark. It's unessential but it would look a little better I think.

indeed, very slick.
Nice job guys.
I'll fully re-browse the rest of the site when I'm not at work. ;)

Random suggestion,
The website has a list of links to the most recent topics on the forum. That is great and all, but I would be careful when Flames topics pop up there. It might turn people off of the site or Kendo World because they may consider the magazine to be holding those views when it is really just some person on the forum. Ya, it would be stupid if that happened, but I am sure someone might get confused, so you might want to prevent flames topics from popping up in that box, or remove the flames all together if you can't easily prevent them from being in that part of the website.
Otherwise, it all looks great, keep it up!

Very very nice, well done. Certainly beats the old frame based website, love your work :P.

Etherknot,
Which footer are you talking about?
Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. Keep em coming!

I am talking about the footer that runs at the bottom of each page. Look for the source: <b>< <a href="../contact/index.php">Contact Us</a> - <a href="http://www.kendo-world.com/">Kendo World Magazine</a> it's around that spot. Of course, the colour code isn't there but that's the general area I'm talking about. Make the text a little but lighter and you might be able to see it :)

Alright, I'll say it: BRING BACK THE BLUE! BRING BACK THE BLUE!
Is KW in mourning or what?
It's still not as bad as e-budo's brownish colour scheme...

YES, I'll second that! I think a little Indigo in the color scheme is very appropriate!

Agreed. I liked it that way. This way is of course good too! *appeases moderators to avoid being squashed*

Actually no... I think KW is going through a rebirth, a returning to its origins. The magazine has always had this colour scheme; it only added to the vibrancy of the colour pictures on the cover. It is the impact of that contrast that we are thinking of.
Look at the KWO front page (http://www.kendo-world.com/), you must agree that the woodblock cut is lookin pretty cool against that background right?
Now take a look at the new Multimedia Forum (http://www.kendo-world.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26). Okay well not right now since it just got up there, but we envision everyone (hint, hint ;)) posting pics, artwork, links to videos and everything else!
Okay, to return to Etherknot's comment... I see what you mean, we will try to lighten that up a little.
Cheers all, and don't be afraid to start new topics in the Feedback Forum (eg New Colour Scheme etc) where we can approach one issue at a time.

Thank the Gods! You guys got rid of that awfull faux wood panel backgroud on the main site! Unlike with Kramer's apartment, it did not make me feel like I was in a ski lodge.

What's all that winking about? You want a pic of me? You sicko! I told you to stop sending me PM's about nude pictures! Only nodachi gets those!
I will try to dredge up some usable kendo pics... although none that I know of are any good.

I have nothing else to say except: GIVE BACK THE BLUE!!!!!
Oh, and if at all possible could we please have an option to display sate or provincial flags?
Thanks

Great work on the new site, it's looking very nice. I have to agree with everyone else though I like the blue forum better but this is not bad either, well as long as it's not pink I dont mind :)

Great look, much more professional looking, and more of a compliment to the magazine I think.
As to the color scheme, I'm in favor of darker schemes so I like the forums this way.
Keep up the great work!!! :d

I really like the new look. There was a brief moment when I logged in when I thought the entire pre-change content of the forum was lost. I just about fell over. There's so much excellent information in there, it's mind boggling.
I'm not talking about my posts either.

whats up with the final fantasy avatars? thats kinda cool!!

Some of us lost our avatars in the transition...the new forum comes with standard uploadable final fantasy avatars, as the custom option isnt available to some of us anymore... power windows and locks are still an extra option though.

It's probably there before but I just downloaded the KW theme song, it's hilarious, who made that? Like I've said before the new website design looks spiffy, better for my eyes, less contrasting colors and easy to navigate :D to bad about the custom avatars though.

The song was Alex's doing in the radio studio he works in. There were other songs we bastardised when we were pissed, but that one actually still sounded good when we were sober!

A few suggestions for the site:
The pop-up for PM read confirms should read yes/no rather than OK/Cancel. Better yet, you should be able to configure that you want or don't want them all the time.
'twould be nice to have a "delete all" button for PMs, rather than having to flip around between the inbox and send box all the time. Or maybe be able to configure that you don't want your sent messages saved.
Searching for new posts is great but if I wait too long before pressing the button after going to the site (like I get distracted by actual work), then the feature has marked all the new posts as old and I can't find them again. The normal search feature doesn't seem to support a search all function to back this up - if I select posts within the last day, I must also enter search terms (* doesn't work).
Lastly, less this seems like all bitching, thank very much for your work in maintaining this site. It's a great resource and remarkably noise-free.

Hi Neil,
Thanks for your feedback. The OK/Cancel option is a bit confusing. I'll mention it to the developers, as with the PM ideas.
At first the new posts disappearing got me too, as I leave it going in the background and check back every now and then for new posts. It is possible to change this setting, but making it too long negates the purpose a bit. The easiest way to work around it is to use the back button after reading the posts, so you go back to the original new posts page, which doesn't refresh.
If you want to find the latest posts in the last day, you can set the filter at the bottom of each forum to only show the threads with new posts, but you have to go through all the forums individually. You can also set this as the default view in your control panel. You'll also notice that the vBulletin logo next to each forum changes to gold when it contains new posts.
I hope that helps! Its still in beta, with the release candidate due out in the next few weeks or so, so there will be some more changes to come.
regards
Hamish

That works assuming that you've gotten to the new posts button in time. Sometimes it takes the forums page a long time to load, so I've ignored it and been working on other stuff - then when I press the search button, it claims no new posts (ie in the 5 minutes since the page loaded and I pressed the button). It would be nice if the search function simply allowed you to specify no keywords, and go by the other filters. It would also be nice if the program didn't simplistically rule out short search terms, as I might wish to search for a short word that is rather unique (like wmv for example, to search for a reference to a movie). Google for example allows short words but disallows common ones like "the".

There used to be a text link for "View today's active threads" which shows all the threads (either read or unread) within the last 24 hours. I found that one the most useful. But it was in the Site Statistic area... disappeared since last modification...
I like the new home page, it's very dramatic. So much great information.
Call me dull but I still can't figure how to get my little avatar up.
:disapp:
To clarify: not this Final Fantisy one, my personal avatar...

I've got it set to allow searches for some short words, like iai, jo and so on (wmv added). The problem with allowing too many is it slows the site down further, especially now that our thread archive is growing.
With the PMs, there's no default option for not saving your sent messages, but if you uncheck the option at the bottom of the new message window, you can avoid doing it on a per message basis.
Once the board software goes to RC, most of the hacks and mods I applied before the change will be available again, so I'll look at getting that 'View today's active threads' one up again, as it sounds pretty handy.

Kiki,
Go to 'User CP' and go to Avatar, and at the bottom you'll find the option 'You can upload an avatar from your computer', and browse to the file you want on your computer. It must be a gif at 50 X 50 pixels or less. See the avatar threads for more info.
Any problems uploading given that the above criteria are met, mail it to me and I'll set it up for you.

For the last time.. BRING BACK THE BLUE!
Seriously though: Has anyone noticed the inordinate amount of Final Fantasy avatars now populating the boards? I like the fact that the moderators have offered up some basic avatars so that we don't have to go searching on our own for them, but... am I the only one that finds all this Role Playing Game themed stuff a bit odd considering this is a kendo message board. Keep in mind I also have an FF avatar so... I'm really complaining that too many OTHER people have them now (man, I'm such a snob.)
I would love to change my avatar to something else by the way (assuming I could find anything).
I think that your site is great.......
Keep it up top notch!!!!

Look up top, on the blue bar, next to "Search"; there should be a "New Posts" button.

I really don't like the narrow, only use half the screen look to this. Is there some option to make this thing fill the whole browser window from left to right?

Ok, this change is not very cool, but I believe, this may be better for those users, who have lower screen resolution.
I just hoped, that this will finally solve the problem with the custom avatar, which couldn't be uploaded - well I was mistaken :-) We still MUST use these FF avatars !!!!

There are some tweaks we want to do, making it full screen width, sorting out the avatar problem, and the welcome panel that was at the top of the page, among others.
If anyone has some more avatars they'd like to send me I'll happily put them up for all to use.
If you can't upload your avatar, please mail it to me at hamish@kendo-world.com and I'll do it through the admin control panel, as it seems to only work for admins at the moment.

Getting better each day-- but now the "New Posts" button doesn't pull any responses. Unless no one has posted in the last day...

There's some wierd issue with the colour of the text. Just select the text by dragging your mouse over it and you should be able to read it. Still a few bugs in the system.
