I do all of them... :p
I used to always cut w/ 2 hands, then either slide or release. Well, more of a slide and then release. Lately, after the MWKF summer camp, I've been experimenting with sliding up the left hand as you perform the kaeshi of men-kaeshi-do.
I think it really depends on the situation, to be honest. If I am attacking and the opponent is backing up, I would strike w/ both hands and try to follow through as much as possible w/ 2 hands. If the opponent hesitates but doesn't back up, I would probably follow through after sliding my left hand. If I'm doing nuki-do, I'm more likely to release. Finally, like I said above, maybe slide, hit, then release for men-kaeshi-do.
I managed to score on do twice during a team match at the latest MWKF Tournament. I struck a do going forwards, on which I think I slid my left hand up after the strike. The second do was a hiki-gyaku-do. There's another wrinkle... For gyaku-do and all hiki-do I would say strike and follow through w/ 2 hands.

I was just recently taught that sliding the left hand up the tsuka was permitted (and perhaps better?) but I have still not tried it enough to know if it is something I should try to adopt or not.
After the cut I sometimes release the left, and sometimes not. Depends on how much pressure there is on the left hand. I don't think it is wrong.

I *sometimes* let go with my left hand, but not too often. I usually keep a deathgrip on my shinai with my left hand, so most of the time I just strike and finish with both hands.

I don't believe I've ever had a successful spontaneous do (jigeiko, shiai, shinsa) so none of the variations I have attempted have any merit in this poll.
During waza practice we use 2 hands without sliding.

At this point I don't slide and I don't release my left after the cut. Having said that, I'm not terribly fast with my do cut yet so I don't have the need to release. I've tried sliding my left and 2 things happened. 1) I got clunked over the head by my sensei for doing it and 2) I found my cut was weaker.
The release isn't a problem in my mind because it can potentially save you from tearing muscle and tendons in your left arm if it locks and someone blows past you. In a theoretical sense I find no problem either. Once the cut connects and starts to slice into the person it's the sliding motion that will finish the cut and your forward momentum and right wrist can do that.

what happened to those polls that you can click on the number of people voted to see who they were?
(just thought i'd ask, cause i am curious as to what rank let's their left hand go and what ranks doesn't)

Yeah, my do is terrible - I don't use it other than in kihon.

It depends on maai, normal do cut I don't adjust my hands nor let go of the left. In something like kaeshi do or men nuki do then I may slide the left hand up if the opponent is too close or moving quickly. I don't let go of the shinai with the left as this seems to defeat the purpose of being ready for the next cut straight away, ifyour hands and wrists in particular are relaxed after the cut the follow through shoouldn't be an issue, if your still tense that'll mess things up I've found.

I've noticed in fast paced jigeko that I have a habit of going too fast and letting go with my left hand... although i can never get the angle right when going for a do...

It's an option. I didn't tick it because I didn't want to force people to reveal their identity if they voted.
I went for both slide and release. Though the slide is to make nice maai, so if I'm too far out to slide, I don't. As for gyaku do, I don't find releasing necessary because of the dynamics of the cut.
The new GB squad coach (7th dan kyoshi) advocates sliding the left hand up for the strike (he didn't say anything about releasing either way).
I'd be interested to hear from those who say that sliding or releasing is wrong. Especially given the number of high grades I see doing either or both.

I slide my left hand up AND release it after the cut (you missed that one in the pool)

You should have put a some or all of the above option, I clicked on 4 of them!
What I do after do depends on the situation and the timing.
