In my spare time I want to find somthing to get me into shape and learn somthing new. What can I expect when going into Kendo for the first time. What are the up's and down's to the sport? Thanks for the help.

Hi K20death,
If you come to this forum, I believe you already read through many posts here. The reason why nobody want to answer your post is because to us Kendo is serious martial art that need total dedication. If you want to be lean shape, take aerobics or go to gym. If you want to learn Kendo to improve yourself, one or two years are not enough. If you go to a dojo and tell the Sensei you just want to do Kendo for excersise, he won't take you into the class. You should try to understand more about Kendo before to go to the dojo.

And one more thing, please don't call Kendo:SPORT. It is just not a sport.

My brother-in-law would say basketball is a lifestyle, too. That doesn't mean it's not a sport.

You're competing directly against another person in order to score points which will win you a match. How is that not a sport?

I'm not maligning it in any way, but if kendo wasn't a sport, there would be no tournaments, or even any shiai.
