So looking at a couple of different specific sets:

G-23 from bogubag
http://www.bogubag.com/Bogu/Machine_3mm/machine_3mm.html

No. 140 from sehyun kumdo
http://www.sehyun-kumdo.com/e-sehyun.htm

or top-qual 2mm from e-bogu
http://www.e-bogu.com/topqual2mmma.html

the e-bogu set is currently on sale for about 799 and the others are around a grand. There is alot of talk on the forums about how one company's set at a particular measurement is not comparable to anothers. I am kind of leaning towards the G-23 but I am really not sure....

Thank you in advance,
Tarun

I'm not in Bogu yet, but I don't think you can go wrong with anything from Koei. I'm dreaming about the S-22 set myself! and bogubag.com is great to deal with.

Yeah the S-22 looks really nice, that extra $200 seems to be just over the line for me, but it gets really easy to just keep talking yourself up. I found myself requesting Masaharu and Mori catalogs. Very dangerous....

Don't forget you can mix and match the Koei stuff too...such as S-22 Men and Kote, and then the Doh and Tare from a lower priced set. From what I understand you should put most of your money in your Men and Kote. I've taken a few heavy Kote shots(I asked Sensei how it feels, and he SHOWED me), and I'm buying the best Kote I can possibly afford! :D

Hi,

I'm shopping for bogu as well, and have been bouncing back & forth betwn e-bogu and bogu-bag. It seems that e-bogu's prices seem to be consistently $200-$300 cheaper than bogu-bag for the similar sets.

For example, I was looking at e-bogu's "Top Quality 3mm Machine-Made set" which runs for $599. Bogu-bag's G-21 runs $815 and G-22 runs $970.

Does anybody know if there's a difference in quality between the sets the two company's are selling? Is the difference that G-21 and G-22 have titanium men?

Thanks.

I have 1.2bu handmade bogu from sehyun and its a great kit the quality is superb I paid about £800 with shipping we have also order several of the machine stiched kits for guys at our dojo and they are also good quality. However the draw back with ordering from sehyun is that they don't accept visa so you have to send the money via a money transfer which can be a pain in the arse but if you want resonable price handmade kit go to sehyun.

If its a choice between the other 2 sets I'd go with Koei as they always provide good quality and the guys there are really helpfull.

I can highly recommend Bogubag.com.
I ended up with the 2bu handstitched set S-25, and it's really nicely made. I get compliments all of the time.
If you get a Yamato doh instead of the bamboo doh and downgrade the tare to the S-24, you can get that set for about $850.00. Really very inexpensive for a handmade set.
Also, Robert Stroud is very helpful. When I first got my bogu, the embriodery on the men was wrong. He immediately ordered a new one from Koei and had me ship the one that I had received back to him, at his expense. Customer service is excellent to say the least.
Before I ordered, I called and emailed several times with questions. He was always cheerful and friendly.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

It seems like a lot of people speak very well of the S-22 set. Would it be maybe better to get an s-22 men and kote and s-17 fiber do and tare?

or maybe even getting a handmade kote either a Y-15/Y-12/or S-26?

The S-26 has a single row stitch versus the Y series ones which have 2 rows, would the higher quality of the S offset the single row?

This is an old post, but I am im the same situation as you were in. What did you end up choosing? I am thinking also of getting the S-22 with S-17 combination as you mentioned. Any hints or advice?
Thank you.

The S-22 is the set I got. I upgraded the Kote and the Dou but in the end it was a very good buy. Don't get better than this set for a machine made option.

Any better and you'll be heading for handstiched heaven...tooo pricey.
