Osaka Taiku Daigaku is ridiculously good. Shaved heads.. scary guys the whole lot of them.
I rode on the same train as their team after they won the Kansai Shinnyusei Taikai last year, and they are a funny bunch, and their kendo is really incredible.
That being said, they are the kind of kendoka that really strike fear into your heart. Someone fell on the floor during the taikai i was at, and the Taidai guy hit his men at least 6 times, and on the seventh knocked the shinai out of the guys hand clear into the other court, and then hit his men again ... all before the ref could say yame. scary indeed.

Just a short question do the Osaka taiiku daigaku(otaidai?) have any relation with nihon taiiku daigaku (nitaidai)?

I dont think so, but I am not sure. I can ask my friends over there though.
Also, the ref took his time in calling yame, but all that happened in about 10 seconds. The guy was still trying to defend his men while on the ground so the shimpan just let it go... or so thinketh my untrained eye.

I went to see the tournament on the 12th
Our team (Budai) did pretty well going into the best 8. We lost to Saitama Daigaku in the semi final by one point. It was 3-3 and the game was decided in the taishousen (captain match). Before that round we had won against the last year champion sukuba daigaku.
Ya osaka taiiku was pretty strong! but all the teams going to that tournament are almost equaly strong! Any of these team could have win the tournament on that day.
Anyway it was some exciting kendo!!!
Its too bad our captain didnt win his match.

Well hmm both are Sports Uni, but Nittaidai is in Tokyo. There are plenty of Taidai around which has excellent kendo clubs. Almost like a premier league. Kagoya Taiiku, Budai, Tsukuba Taiiku, Fukuoka Taiiku etc. to name a few.
