Hey there again guys...seems like i'm always posting up new threads huh? :silly:
I was just wondering. In a shiai or shobu, what ways do u guys pressure or intimidate your opponents into opening something or mistakes? Do you analyze your opponent before attacking or do you guys just go with the flow? It's something that's in my mind for the short time being. And is there a japanese word for 'pressuring/intimidation your opponent' in kendo? As you may probably have guessed, I do not speak Japanese but am interested in learning new terminologies other than basic waza terms and greetings/expressions.

I think you should first know what you are afraid of.... Why are you stepping back instead of staying where you are. Why are you moving your kamae instead of keeping it strong... Why didn't you react when your opponment strike... Analysing your reaction you will learn how to improve your seme.

what would do if your opponent has one of those plastic eye gaurds tinted dark, would that intimidate you, if kendo is eye to eye contact , you couldn't see what their eyes are doing

I personally would be more careful and I will try to be more aggressive .
The plan is that I try to force my opponent to move the way I want them to
move. I wounld give that person as little as possible of attacking chance.
Watch out for counter and mostly your own kote and do.
That how I woud do it.

I think seme is more about mental attitude than anything. If you feel confident and feel like you can beat your opponent, that is all what matters. For me, if I tell myself I can get the opponent's men before he can get my kote, more often than not, I will get it. If you have doubts about yourself, it'll never work.
Well, i still kinda analyze my opponent, see what he'll react to certain things, like my attacks, combos, and my movements, and see what i can do to beat the opponent.
