I've never discovered if Christmas number 1 in the hit parade is a big deal in other countries but here in the Un-Uk it used to be the be all and end all. Now it's become a media unit shifter based on the TV show X-Factor, formerly Pop Idol or Generic Idol world-wide.

Back in the day the deal was probably the same with annual clashes by the likes of Slade and Wizzard but we all love Noddy Holder and Roy Wood now so better them than Simon Cowells evil progeny. So it is that a movement has arisen on BBC Radio 1 to get Malcolm Middleton to number 1 with his festive track 'We're all going to die'.

You can read more here http://www.nme.com/news/malcolm-middleton/32692 or go to his site here http://www.malcolmmiddleton.co.uk/

Suffice to say purchasing his single on December 17th will make many people glued to their TV sets on Saturday nights unhappy but usher in a new era of Christmas pop.

I think it's just a UK thing. It's not associated with the American Idol or Canadian Idol franchises, AFAIK.

Canadian Idol? I wonder if Simon Cowell will become the UK's Celine Dion!

We're sorry for Simon Cowell! :D

xmas no 1 has always been a big deal here, with the recent pop idol x-factor televisual turd it has lately become nothing more than a marketing exercise for those who spend all their time and effort pumping sewage into our society. For example the spice girls reunion....

Look guys they've kicked off their tour in Vancouver, that means their still in Canada probably, organise roadblocks, suicide bombings anything, go to their gigs in bogu and bludgeon them to death with bokuto, just STOP this madness. FFS next it'll be the Paris Hilton tour or something....

phew, well I feel better now I've got that off my chest.

Cowell's not involved with CI, we've got our own set of yahoos to do the judging.

Perhaps Cowell will get his winner to do yet another cover of 'do they know it's Christmas?'

The Heijoshin Dojo Christmas song! We can't do any worse than last year's crap, or the year before, or the year before, etc, ad infinitum.

Nige - are you going to regale us with your prospective number one at training next week?

Why ever not? The idiots who normally write them do it while they are on the loo. Shame they don't use the paper they write the song on for something useful while they are there.

Probably can't though as it's already covered in s**t.

Maybe the week after? Or in time for the Christmas bash if you are going.

"I wish it could be keiko every day"

"Let the bells ring out for keiko"

"Merry Keiko everyone"

"Mistle-iaito and wine"

Christmas time is here again/
Oh what a joyous time/
Peace and love for everyone/
And free candy canes at the bank/
They may be smaller than the regular ones/
but what can you you say when they're free/
Plus if you get stuck in the wilderness/
You'll still have something to eat/
Red and white delicious stripes/
But the green and white ones suck/
Christmas...Christmas... Christmas....

Christmas.
