As we can't start soon enough with collecting these and this forum is some really nice media to store our resolutions for the year 2008, I thought it would be neat to make a tread and put them all in here.

I'll start with mine.

I'm planning to finally put in the floors and fix up the walls in our appartment, really make time for this:D (heard that some where before?)
Then when everything is fixed up marry my fiancee Andrea hopefully in august.

...and if things will work out really well for me this year I might get promotion to a better job within the company, just will have to show them I can do it.

Mine is to be better at saving money. I've been wanting to upgrade my kote and iaito but I never seem to have enough extra cash....no more eating out for lunch or buying a coffee on Saturday mornings

I'm planning to get into the RAF this year, which means putting in some serious training at the gym.

I also want people to start taking me seriously, therefore I am going to lose my "girly girl", silly blonde image.

Thats it really!

Oh, and I also would like a PS2, although I know I won't get one for Xmas so it means I have to save up and get one in the new year... I want a dance mat!!! :)

I dunno, resolutions just seem to be meant to be broken. I've made a few and never really followed through with them like I wanted to. But hey, nothing wrong with making them anyways. Here are a few (some easier to do than others, I presume).

- Do more kendo practice at home
- Make sure I survive the next year...
- At least attempt to start Iaido

I guess my case is a bit difficult since I'm going through some very cool changes in my life.

Well, maybe people should think very well about their resolutions, instead of just saying something which they in the back of their head already know they can't achieve.

Andrea and I set our minds onto getting married August 8th 2008. We were already planning to get married.

I like the idea of getting Shodan by the end of the year. Only been doing kendo 2 months so far. A far fetched one perhaps?

For martial arts, I want to get my 1st kyu in Shotokan, and work hard enough to receive bogu in Kendo by the end of 2008.

For the rest, I want to finally get somewhere with my Nihongo self-study and try to stay at it with the kanji, and not have power study sessions for a whole weekend and then not touch a single kanji flash card in months. Also I need to train my fingers to become faster for my music lessons.... and I need to stop pretending my clarinet is a shinai *hides*

Behavior wise, maybe try to become a bit more humble, less eager to please and well.... less hyper.. xD And stop judging people because they don't take everything as serious as I do.

Oh and I need to start, and keep a Kendo, and a Karate Diary. Yep, that's a serious resolution!

I think Shodan, in either Art, is a 2009 thing for me. Gives me some time to relax in 2008 ;)

Congrats, Lars!

I don't usually make New Year's resolutions, but perhaps this year I'll do something a bit different and make one or two.

I'm under a lot of job-related stress right now, so I think in the New Year I'll be re-arranging things so I can spend more time with my family.

I'd also like to try some things that I've never done before such as rock-climbing or sailing, or even just skip a day of work and take in a movie or something like that.

I don't know . . . nothing major I guess, but basically spend less time at work or thinking about work and spending more time with my family and doing things we enjoy. I'd be happy with that :)

Oh, and move out of our condo and into our first house . . . it'll be so nice to not hear the neighbour's conversations! Okay, maybe that one's a 2009 thing . . .

More time for yourself and your family is always good especially if you can afford it.

I hope all goes well for you.

I used to do indoor climbing, I really enjoyed doing this.

Mine are to get accepted to U. of Pittsburgh, gain some fast twitch muscle strength, multiply and save enough money to downpay on a house, and build a more respectable wardrobe.

No kendo resolutions per say, just show up, practice hard and hopefully the rest will follow. Well maybe my own bogu, zekken and nikkyu, but those are existing goals not new resolutions.

...now they're written down, I guess I'll have to make them happen or be shamed come next December. Rep to whoever remembers and resurrects this thread in 360 days.

My new year's resolution is to drink more.

Odd, me too. I'm starting as soon the clock strikes 12!

This is unfortunately in direct conflict with my other resolution which is to get rid of my beer gut.

Switch to shochu and then you'll have shochu gut :chinese:

If I switch to shochu I’ll end up in prison! That stuff makes me go bonkers if I get drunk on it.

Actually, that one sounds good. I'll need to get some practise in though beforehand so I'm ready when the clock strikes 12. :D

The drinking more that is! I'll need to develop the beer gut (no comments please).

Don't do resolutions as such but....

I do have some aims.

I am going to go fo promotion this year.
Try and get selected for the British team again and then do better than I did this year.
Get my iai Godan and maybe my Jodo Sandan.
To prove my worth to someone very special to me.

That should keep me busy.

I have never heard of a scotch gut or a gin gut, not even a rum gut. Go for it its hard liquor all the way.

Mine is to become more proficient with my bogu once my shoulder heals. That includes getting stronger with my cardio and learning to "Breathe"

So this was the list I made at the beggining of the year. Lets see how I did.

Didn't get a promotion
Did get re-selected but again went out in the quarters
Didn't get my Godan iai- didn't try for my Sandan jodo
Still trying to convince a certain someone.

what a shite year.

lost my father and father in law this year, both ultimately to heart attacks
its been unbelievably depressing .................but still got my wife, that the main thing,
still got my health, still gotta job so can feed my family,
still got a grim(ish) sense of humour,............... very Gallows humour or so my boss says his fault hes ex forces so goes with the old job

got them, every thing else really doesnt matter

Got to

STFU about my "problems", they are trivial compared to other peoples

thanks for reading (hope i havent spoilt the thread)

in reality

to get back into iai and kendo,

to lose weight, need to lose approx 28lb

get my head back together

cheer the feck up

get back into a dojo before I crack up with boredom.... six days to go before I am put out of my misery.
resolutions... never make any, waste of time. If I have to think about what I need to do, it means its way down my priority list.

Things to do however are:

Teach a class in Venezuela in April.

Get my japanese buddies over here in September.

Work out a better (ie quicker) method for making saya to fit the wooden sword blades I am making.

Get some cash together for next years trip to Japan.
