I was looking at a time line of his life and I found something rather interesting. Yukio Mishima participated in the WKC on April 5th 1969, in Tokyo at the Nihon budo-kan. I am a great fan of his work so this was really interesting to me. Although I knew he took up kendo and iaido later on in his life, most historical records of his life don't really go into detail about his life as a kendo-ka. If anyone out there knows any books or websites that have info about this part of his life I would love to have a look at them.
And for those who are interested here is the site I was looking at.

The first WKC was held in 1970... Do they mean the All-Japan tourney?

It definitely said World Kendo Champs. Perhaps I (or that site) was mistaken about the year.

Sorry about the double post...

It says he started kendo in December of '58. Ten years later he is promoted to 5-dan, and the following year he participates in the WKC. I wonder if the AJKF has any records of this. It would interesting to see how he did.
