Anybody seen the new version of Sanjuro?

I can't picture liking it, considering how great I think the original is, and I don't really like boy-band rejects much, but hey, I could be wrong. Anybody seen it? Anybody seen it and liked it?

A review in the Daily Yomiuri basically described it as an OK film - hell, you couldn't go wrong with the plot - but only for those who have never seen the original. Otherwise, don't bother.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to watch this when the original version with Toshiro Mifune is relatively easy to obtain. However, I also can't understand why people would want to see Willy Wonka portrayed by anyone besides Gene Wilder, so it could be that I'm old fashioned. :rolleyes:

There might be at least one positive side-effect: I'm guessing most people today aren't aware of the original Sanjuro movie..Now they have a reason to check it out :)

None of the film trailers featured anything special so I'll stick with the original. Fredrik's right - it may appeal to a younger audience unfamiliar with the old version. I think it would have been more interesting to see the plot and characters in a "Sanjuro" re-make with a different twist - maybe in a contemporary setting. Hollywood is constantly re-making older films (some not as good as the original of course) and they've borrowed heavily from Japanese films in the past for inspiration as well, so I'm sure Japanese studios are equally capable in this regard and we'll see yet more re-makes.
