you guys know the old japanese coins that where shaped like a boat called? I think i heard then called tails once, but i could be wrong. What are the real name, and what are the worth? thanks.

Seriously, I don't see any references to names like quarter, dime, penny etc. They just had values in terms of yen, sen, rin and, in older times, "mon."
Also, they had paper currency called "hansatsu"

The gold ones were refered to a koban (hence the koban-type shinai) and were valued at 1 ryo)
Your "tails" story probably comes from a weight based on a Chinese coin tael, which was the weight value of one tael (or liang) of silver. The same way that the pound sterling was once the value of one pound of sterling silver.
