Ohhhhh shiiit dat waz mad skilz yo.
Does anyone actually practice really quick cuts? We do but it's to loosen up the ol' wrists: Shinai placed on men, flick and ten o uchi away until yameeeeeeeee.
I like how they managed to condense the book of 5 rings down to a short video clip, saves me the trouble of reading it because it looks like it'd be pure gash.

Aww, that poor fat kid in the white gi had to lean on his shinai during the bout. After making ten thousand meaningless strikes, he couldn't even continue... I dunno, the two four-year-old-looking-types that wandered in and out of the foreground were just as bad.

These are the kinds of people that need to be weeded out of all forms of budo. The swordsman of this era need another musashi type to just bash out all these people. sorry if a sound a little harsh but i grew up doing martial arts and i run into all kinds of jokers like established guys who steal peoples money but thats why there established i guess lol.... Bushikan Dojo of south west florida. Joe "Ha no Kame" Bass started our dojo he was trained under Nakayama Zendo and Saieki Hajime ... he is the only non japanese to recive samurai status from the government. Ha no kame is leagaly in his name now but he died about 7 years ago from cancer so afterwards are dojo almost fell apart and before he died he asked my sensei to teach fully and take over so he did his wife teached karate too.

Yeah im trainging for my Nidan test right now its tough we dont slack on stuff my sensei is a good guy too were like a family we hang out durring holidays and we allways go out of our way to help each other. And the lineage thing is cool because even though im american i can trace our roots all the way to Hiashiazaki Jinsuke Shiganobou the founder of iai in tosa. You can see vids online about Nakayama Hakudo he founded Muso Shinden Ryu thats our school.

i can trace our roots all the way to Hiashiazaki Jinsuke Shiganobou the founder of iai in tosa.
There are plenty of very interesting statements to explore here, but as this particular detail might be missed: Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu was not from Tosa. He was a retainer in Oshu, in what is modern-day Yamagata prefecture. It was Hasegawa Eishin who founded a derivative of Hayashizaki ryu in Tosa about 200 years later. See Hyoho.com (http://www.hyoho.com/Kiso1.html).
Also, everyone practising a Hayashizaki-derived ryuha (Muso Jikiden Eishin ryu, Muso Shinden ryu, Tamiya ryu, Hoki ryu etc.) can trace their roots back to Hayashizaki. Ryugi lineage just works that way.

You bastards...I wanted a piece of that samurai action, but you probably scared him off now. C'mon, you guys know the drill.
First we act puzzled. Next, we pretend to be interested. After faking interest, we drag out as many embarrassing comments as possible. Just when its about time to blow them out of the water, we boost their ego some more, allowing for more tragic statements. Then we attack, taking pleasure in watching the person become uncomfortable, defending each lie with another lie.

So changing your user profile wasn't meant to be deceptive? Saying your dojo is one of the best in the world wasn't stupid? Getting your koryu facts wrong wasn't stupid? The reasons I come to this site are three main categories...
1. Getting to talk with other kendoka I otherwise would have a slim chance of interacting with.
2. Listening to people claim ridiculous stuff under different profile names. (Like, "I'm from on of the best dojos in the world.") Yay!!!
3. To boost my ego, I mean...to love everyone, no matter what excrement is forced out of their mouth.

no i changed my profile because im not very good with computers i forgot my password for my other account and my old email i got rid of so i couldnt do anything about it oh well and again the best dojo in the world to me is mine i think all people should think thier dojo is the best other wise you need to reevalute where you are learning at and ive never put down false post about koryu thats not true i did make a mistake as i reverberated allrady and im kinda sick of this pissing match get over it all ready if dont agree just say you dont agree you dont need to be a jerk i never personaly attack what people say i only give my opinion.

also id like to say in refrence to tosa. iaido was populerized there by shigenobu thats not where he learn swordsmanship but where it was passed around then obvioiusly students learn grow and move to other areas of japan to gain fame and be under service of someone. the tosa samurai were feared from the shinsengumi as being the best swordsman a lot of the tosa samurai left service to their lords to service the emperor directly. tosa in history was famed for being an area with the best swordsman iai ones that learned iai and a lot of lords would search out people that studied there. and i didnt get my info from some dumb website if you belive everything you read from books and the internet your a fool you need to learn how to seperate peoples bs a lot of things written down are exaggerated my info comes from Nakayama Zendo who passed it to Joe Bass then my sensei then me. also to not step on toes im not saying any one person is an idiot im not directly attacking anyone like others are doing to me im stateing what i know and if im wrong which im not. then what do other people care if someone else is a fool and to point out so shows your own foolishness. and to reiterate i might be a little crazy but in war there has to be somebody to charge in and take out as many as you can some one who can take the abuse and kill of as many as possabe and if thats me then so be it.

I think by not thinking your dojo is the greatest you put yourself in a dangerous mindset for failure to not intrust yourself to your sensei and fellow men at arms then you prob. arnt getting the training you should our dojo is like a family most people go to thier dojo train prob. talk to fellow members here and there go to functions once in a while ect. but thats not what a dojo is. its a place where you sweat bleed and go through rigirous training at my sensei one day said the best way to become a true freind is 3 ways fight together drink together and eat together and untill you do that your just accaintences with the same hobby. at that point its not a budo its a hobby and i dont think what i do is a hobby.

Great, someone who might be able to clear things up.
...he is the only non japanese to recive samurai status from the government.
...named as one the successors to our style.
i might be a little crazy but in war there has to be somebody to charge in and take out as many as you can some one who can take the abuse and kill of as many as possabe and if thats me then so be it.
So: do you both believe in this rubbish?

You said if "by not thinking your dojo is the greatest you put yourself in a dangerous mindset for failure to not intrust yourself to your sensei and fellow men at arms then you prob. arnt getting the training you should." That sounds like you're talking about my dojo to me, 'cause I don't think my dojo is the greatest, I think it is A good dojo. Anybody who claims "greatest dojo" sounds like an ass to me. My point in mentioning the taikai in Florida, is that your dojo is in Florida, but it is unaware of this taikai. Why would that be? I wonder. Does your dojo have a website?

I haven't made any personal attacks. However, you've just made a threat. Sorry, several threats.
Anyway, to dispel any idea that I'm being contentious purely on a personal level, let's address the points one at a time.
1. Samurai have not existed since 1873. The Shinōkōshō system was abolished by the Meiji emperor and has not been reinstated since. This means that everyone who was a samurai stopped being one in 1873, and no one has been 'made' a samurai since. Not even the highest graded Japanese budoka, not even the descendants of samurai, not even the descendants of such legendary figures as Miyamoto Musashi or Iizasa Ieano are samurai. Samurai do not exist.
2. There are no successors to Muso Shinden Ryu. The line ended with Nakayama Hakudo.
3. I may not live in the US but I understand that over there fighting 'duels' and murdering people is considered illegal, not to mention morally wrong. I think most people in the world would agree, and those who don't are generally considered to be mentally deranged.
As for learning iaido as a killing art only - surely this is a more useless approach than studying it as a means of self-development and continuation of tradition? To put in context what you say about what iaido is for, let's look at some of the dōka traditionally associated with iai. As you study Muso Shinden ryu, the following aphorisms apply (apologies for my crude translation):
勝負は鞘の内にあり
'The fight is won with the sword still in the sheath.'
This means both having determination to win (覚悟), and also that one should be able to deal with difficult situations without resorting to violence.
居合とは人に斬られず人斬らずおのれを責めて平らかな道
'Iai is the peaceful way of neither killing nor being killed, but of reflecting seriously upon one's own faults.'
居合とは心に勝つが居合なり人に逆ふは非刀と知れ
'Know that iai is conquering one's own mind, and that turning on others is incorrect use of the sword.'
Literally 'opposing/fighting others is the bad/wrong sword,' meaning 'someone who attacks others goes against the way of the samurai.'
These are all sayings that are used in Muso Shinden Ryu or Hayashizaki Ryu, and variations are found in many other styles.

"I can send an email to the local japanese consulate and easily get this checked out."
Why not just send an email? This could clear the whole situation a bit up.
I'd be interested if there were actually any samurai after the Meiji-period. Wikipedia says interesting things:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haitorei_Edict
Nothing there about samurai themselves being prohibited, only their swords, their top-knots, etc.

No, the caste/class itself was abolished. All castes/classes were abolished and the bans on topnots and swords were to reflect this.
Anyway, I still think this thread has run its useful life and is now just getting messy. It should be locked.

There are no Samurai......the closest thing we have now is one another, as long as we respect tradition and are dedciated to the art.
Barring that would be Sensei who grew up in households that had traditionally always been Samurai....ie, great grandfather....who passed on the traditions, but not the name.
I think Neils on vacation...........

C'mon, what a waste of storage in Kendo-world.com servers. If you were so passionate training as you show arguing, you couldn't be defeated by anybody. I think this is not funny anymore.
