I'm off on business for a couple of weeks, starting Sunday. So moderation here might be sporadic, or I might be able to check in, not sure right now.

I plan to visit the GKA dojo in Atlanta Tuesday (the 29th), and the Shidogakuin DC dojo on Friday (the 1st). I might get to some other DC practices but it's iffy. So say hi if I show up.

Ah cool. I don't normally get to the weekday practices since that's for the advanced students and I haven't gotten permission to join that class yet.
Wasn't sure if I should be asking for permission or waiting for sensei to tell me to start showing up.

I'll try drop by and at least say hi.

oh cool, i'll make sure i show up in herdon 2/1 then... But I'll actually be coming back from a business trip that night. I should be able to make it to practice on time though.

There's practice at George Washington University on Saturday at 2pm if you would be able to join us.

If you meet Peter Park in GKA, beat him up for me =)

Finally on my way back home. Thanks to the members of the Georgia Kendo Alliance, Shidogakuin Rockville & Herndon and GWU clubs for allowing me to join their practices, hope to get a chance to do it again sometime.

So what was it like, training with a bunch of new people? Anything you can share?

Hope you had a great trip. Missed you at GKA by about a week and a half, too bad your trip wasn't later or mine earlier. It would have been great to meet up for keiko and beer-do.

Anything you can share?I always enjoy meeting new people through kendo, seeing the way they conduct classes, learning new drills, getting a chance to get my butt kicked by new sensei. Also on business trips it's nice to get away from the stress of the work and get a good sweat on. Arai-sensei at GKA and Kamata-sensei in DC were both very nice and hospitable. I got a chance to keiko with Ohta-sensei, who was visiting GKA. I've practiced in DC before, so I knew some of the other people already but GKA was new.

Yep, I'll second that (as a Kendo-Mom). William has enjoyed kendo in many states and always learns by visiting another dojo. Kendo is not static, the energy and spirit at each dojo is unique and we have been lucky to meet some great Kenshi along the way. Most dojos are open to visitors if contacted in advance and it is good to put faces (and waza) with some of the posters here :):jaguar:

I'm making a very similar trip next week. I fly to Atlanta on the 9th, then DC on the 12th and leave DC on the 22nd. I hope to hit the GKA practice on the 11th, and then Shidogakuin, GW and Capitol Budokai practices over the following week and a half, depending on my work schedule. So please say hi if you see me at practice and hopefully I can get to keiko with some KW denizens.

Ahhh, Satsumaruma-san.... not to worry... the Seven Smutty Samurai thread is still alive and kicking. :)

Be sure JoDuncan-san washes the equipment before he puts it away... just no telling where THEY have been! :eek:
