Hey everyone,

I'm posting this here because I'm at work and once again you guys have said something naughty that is preventing me from getting into the flames forum

Shame on you all....

Anyways, here's a fun one you'll all enjoy.

Kenjutsu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leQa-kJgT4U)

same style? It looks legit, but the accuracy of form provided is sadly not as good as the beginners that are taught here in Australia. I am quite glad that I have a good skilled sensei and dojo to train in

Well to me it looks like kendo (well not very good but still...) and they're calling it kenjutsu. Is the person posting this just uninformed or is this just someone making stuff up as they go along?

It kind of looks like the people who are doing it are young - perhaps not. It's really odd, in my opinion.

They've got to be beginners, but... what was with that primordial, feral screech? Someone's repressed. See, this is my problem with the "Louder is always better" School-of-Kiai. (Further exposition to follow, I've been wanting to rant about this for a while.)

Nah, it's from Instituto Niten, a highly (commercially) succesful kendo McDojo.

Yeh one of their chronies has been on E-budo and kendo-world pursuing a crusade agains't the legit Hyoho Niten Ichi ryu tradition. Most likely an inferiority complex.

Really? Instituto Niten is referenced from the Hyouhou Niten Ichi Ryuu homepage and Jorge Kishikawa is there said to have received Menkyo Kaiden:

From the way I understand it, the Gosho-ha line of HNIR is not recognised by the main koryu groups in Japan.

Thats not the official HNIR website. That is the official Gosho-ha HNIR org & website that this Niten Institute guy belongs too.

THIS (http://www.hyoho.com/Hyoho1.html) is the website administrated by the official Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu tradition.

Hmmm, okay, but it seems this situation is a little more complex than just the regular ole' McDojo-soke-professor-doctor nonsense, no? Can someone help me get a better grip on the situation?

Ignoring this Brazilian fellow for the moment, have I understood correctly that the "problem" begins with Gosho Motoharu creating the Gosho-ha branch? Was he a legimate shihan of the school? I realize it might be foolish to trust wikipedia on this...
What about the other qualifications listed, such as hanshi 8-dan iaidou and 7-dan kendou?

Just search for Kishikawa here or on e-budo. There's a lot of bad press.

Sorry, bud - I wasn't being an arse (for a change) towards you, but I personally am sick and tired of the nonsense on Wikipedia about the various offshoots of NIR and their claims to fame - and also of Mr Kishikawa and his McBollocks.

Organize a raiding party and make off with all their equipment. Sure it's half way across the world but it's a good excuse for a vacation and it might do the world of JSA some good.

I bumped into the dojo one of the NIR offshoots while in Kumamoto. I had my gear with me as I was doing some keiko at Reigando and if it wasn't for how pissed my sensei would be at me, I would've knocked on the door for some friendly 'practice'... ;)

Oh no worries! :)
Actually, I admit being suckered by the Wikipedia article in the first place...
I got a PM that explained a lil' bit more about the situation, and my curiosity is now quelled, hehe.

Well...I think he would have been mad at for doing it...on the record. When no one else was around he probably would have congratulated you and asked you how bad you clobered them.

Next time you're down that way at least throw a brick at one of their windows. Very theraputic.

The thing that troubles me the most about niten (the brasilian school) is the total lack of shame Mr. Kishikawa demonstrates. Because, after all, he was a good kendoka... he was.
He had a great carrer as an international competitor, he comes from a family of kendoka, but somewhere along the line I guess money spoke louder.
You should listen to his interviews. He sells the "modern samurai lifestyle" bullshit like nobody else... and people really buy it.
Oh, man.
