I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks the Shamisen is one of the best musical instruments ever created.

Not sure the rest of the planet would though!

The sitar is awe inspring when played well. So is the electric guitar. I have even heard the glockenspiel played with.....erm ................so much passion that even I as a true rock guitar god was inspired.

On to SOtW - Music superb but without Ian Gillan.....Oh My God!

Things is, if they had arranged this song and then invited Ian Gillan along to sing - how impressive would that have been!!!!!!

I once had a girlfried who could play AC/DC's Thunderstruck on the recorder. But that was damn impressive.

ACDC played by a girl sticking a phallic object in her gob?Impressive?

I was going to make a joke about;

"Well, how was she on the "Skinflute?"

.....But I decided that would have been much too crass.

Well I managed to avoid that one. I am sure you could manage it too!!!

Were we separated at birth?

Were we separated at birth?

If that's true, then one of us was separated afterbirth.
:D

I think it is evolved from Sanxian which was a Chinese instrument. It is still great though.

Just as a side note,
I am certain most of you know who the Yoshida Bros. are by now.
If not, you are in for quite a treat (http://youtube.com/watch?v=1i1FznZT7fU).

Sir, you have dishonoured me and I demand satisfaction. Meet me at dawn with your second and we shall settle this in the time honoured tradition of wet towel flicking.

It is bad enough that you accused me of having Scottish blood but I can not stand to be associated with a...........with a............ a colonial!!!:)

Don't suppose you have her number by any chance?

Some people may know the Yoshida Bros but not by name... (at least here in the US...not sure if other countries get the same commercials)

I almost fell out of my chair when the Smoke on the Water video started playing (I hadn't read down the rest of the thread beforehand). That's awesome!

Apparently my maternal grandfather used to be really good at the shamisen. But he passed away when I was four, so I never got to hear him play.
