Hello Take, I am pretty new to the Kendo boards as well and Kendo in general.
Where abouts do you train? I take it somewhere in the UK?

how old are you guys. I was afraid I am too old (19) to start kendo, but some of you seem like you're pretty "late" also heh.

I was 18 when I started Kendo. I dont think there is ever "too old" to start Kendo. Maybe if you have aspirations to be one of the greatest kenshin ever there might be, but I think kendo can be beneficial to anyone not matter how late in life they start. For me, this was just when I was first exposed to it. I think all of us that started in our late teens which we could have had the opportunity to practice it when we were kids. I know I wish I could have.

I took karate as a kid and the only reason was because my parents made me, I don't think I had a natural interest in martial arts until now. I don't care about being the greatest anything, I just want to do this because I am attracted to it. I was going to get kempo, but then I though I might become arrogant since I would carry two weapons around. With kendo, you only take the fight to the dojo, not outside.

The Hachidan hanshi at the head of the Kitamoto kendo summer camp 2004 started at 14 years old.

Hey Takeshi, I train in MJER as well up in Leeds.
Argh don't say 19 is too late for Kendo! I'm 25 and I wanted to have a try at it sometime!
Having said that I'm confused enough already remembering Iai and Kenjutsu waza!
