do you need to study for that test but you are watching tv???

Too much work and no play makes YOU a dull boy

I need all the distraction I can get! Anything to keep me awake..
I didnt know you could chat about absolutely nothing for hours at a time, but we are managing. What is everyone else doing to waste time? Other than YouTube surfing!

(Wasting time id better with a cup of tea and wasabe coated peanuts mmmm)

Good idea for a thread :)

I usually spend/waste my time with YouTube, lolcats (http://icanhascheezburger.com/),loldogs (http://ihasahotdog.com/), wikipedia and of course MA-forums.

Work? What's this "work" thing you're all talking about?

Actually, I use it even when busy. Few days ago I had a 20 hour day, so I would check here every so often to take mind of things for a couple of minutes.

Slow days in work are the worst, you keep hitting that "today's posts" button :)

Last night I was going to watch Lost but the wife asked me to tape it so we could spend time together [not in that way...]. So I go downstairs, set the video I remember I have a couple of things to do on Travian [my waste of time] and put away the dishes. 1 hour and 45 minutes later I was back upstairs...

So my TWE [time wasting exercise] is Travian (www.travian.co.uk) a rather cute online game where you build either a Roman, Gaulish or Teuton village and manage it on an hourly basis. Build troops, harvest resources and attack other villages. I started it last Summer with the nipper for something to do only for him to lose interest. Now I have ten villages, named after fruit and vegetables, reside in the top 180 of 6000+ players and can't wait for the whole thing to finish, which it periodically does when the scary race the Natars descend like banshees on the Travian world.

Additionally my latest fun with google maps is trampoline spotting. I may even start plotting them but it's a great way to lose a few minutes.

Oh . .. wikipedia, google maps, and google earth are my favourite ways to stay "busy" while at work. I also like drooling over bogu I can't afford, bikes I can't afford, and you tube. The interweb is an amazing time-waster. I'd rather read an interesting book to kill an hour . . . but it's not so popular with the boss when it looks like a lazy Sunday afternoon in the office.

I'm also a bit of a geek, so crusing the JPL website (http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/index.cfm) for the early test pilot pics and technology is another one I like to kill a couple hours with.

when I get bored at work, I usually start coding my own websites, finishing projects I don't get the time to do at home. As long as there is code on my screen, nobody asks questions at work :p

oh there is always this:

"Aren't you supposed to be working?"
-"I'm compiling"

god I love IT :D

good morning ppl

I knew this thread was gonna work.

what would have been of our world if everyone of us actually do what we have to do always...?
for sure it would be a better place and, ehm, maybe I would actually be in the "future" that they promesed me when I was a kid for the year 2000.
where are my rockets to go to the moon in the weekend?? where is the robot that would do my homework?? the flying cars?? my holographic 3d TV?? my personal jetpack??

hahaha

On cold snowy crap days at the office I spend an awful lot of time on KendoWorld:)

Or on Ebay.....bidding on things that always skyrocket in price on the final day/few hours.

I know of something that is much much better than Absinthe and has the exact same effect;

Walk up to any random stranger, given them your wallet, and ask them to kick you in the balls.

Well, to be honest, Absinthe doesn't hurt your balls.
But it is a big fat waste of money.

your probaly not drinking it fast enough

A.) It's illegal.

B.) The effect you are thinking to obtain is moot considering that the actual wormwood in the drink is made in modern times (where legal) from trace amounts, which, even in it's heyday of popularity in France more than 100 years ago, was dubious at best.

C.) The chemical which is at the heart of the mystique about Absinthe is actually similar in structure to THC, and is called Thujone. It NOT a cannabinoid, however it IS a neurotoxin which can kill you. -although since the alcohol content in the drink is so high you would most assuredly pass out in a drunken stupor long before you could consume enough of the toxin to have a harmful effect.

D.) The sellers of Absinthe in modern times are simply put; Snake Oil salesmen.

In any event, not what i'd call "Super-happy-fun" time.

~and now you know.
and knowing is half the battle.

Yes, that Binge drinking neurotoxins (http://memeticpress.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/retards.jpg)is generally not a good idea.
Pretty reasonable advice I think.

How did we move from a happy, fun topic about avoiding work to the consumption of illegal and life-taking substances?

What kind of Kendoka needs drugs anyways??? A good 3-hour practice makes you high, too :)

Back on topic, I use my DS at work :-O Legally even, since I got a kanji dictionary for the DS to help me read Japanese documents and now the sound of the Nintendo DS "bling" fills my office and it just makes me happy :D LOL

Remind me to ask you what kind of work you do where you can spend on the internet and get educated in Japanese. My daughter only has pet shops and Sponge Bob on her machine. Never knew that grown ups could use it. And then at work.:eek:
