did you guys watch some of the free videos? They are pretty kewl; as i said b4, I've never really seen real karate. But that bald dude pretty bad ass. I notice also that they use some of the same terminology as Kendo like Ippon Shobu.

I have a question...Why is karate/kung fu/tae kwon do so popular here in the US? It's so popular that some people would even pay big bucks...one guy at my job was telling me that his kung fu school is 180 a month. 180! A MONTH! To DANCE AROUND!

Better marketing. It's a difference in philosophies also. Karate/tkd/kung fu people ,in the US, prefer to run their operations like a business and make a living from it rather than preserving knowledge and maintaining the integrity of the art.

Americans, for the most part, don't see anything wrong with that. The only way you could get away with this in Kendo is by splitting off from the AUSKF, thereby giving yourself authority to grants ranks. Otherwise, it becomes very difficult to ask people to keep paying out large sums of money to continue training in an art for ranks they may never attain because an impartial board is handling the testing.

Keep in mind that just as JSA, there are both legit and McDojos in karate/kung fu/TKD. Although there are probably more McDojos than legits, blame Hollywood. Kung fu schools are far less organized, i.e., no federation. And traditionally, there's no ranking system in kung fu schools. There's only sempai/kohai.

There are definately more (mcdojos than legit). It's big bucks and even when you think about the outrageous fees most schools offer they are still cheaper/comparable with most other recreational/sports activities today. Think of the cost of hockey equipment and rink fees and even fees to qualify for the team every year. Just to try out for a team (kids team!) is around $1000 for a season. Then the skates, helmet, pads, jersey, sticks, etc, etc, etc. And when you consider kids probably go through a size every year and most of this has be repurchased year after year. It's ridiculous.

So, promote Kendo more - especially to your friends/co-workers/neighbours with kids. You can't get much better than Kendo for both physical, mental AND moral training. When you spring the costs on them they will no doubt be wondering why this inexpensive secret is so secret.

The growing costs of things is obviously one of the factors that make soccer (real football) so popular today in Canada and the USA.
