View Full Version : Rotating carbon shinai staves

Question:

Is it alright to rotate the staves on a carbon shinai? For instance, if you see that the bottom side is getting a bit damaged, could you rotate your shinai staves like some people do with the good ol' bamboo ones? (i.e. just change the position of the leather parts)

Has anyone ever dealt with Hasegawa on this issue? Has anyone ordered an extra stave from them only to have them ask if it's for the bottom, top, left or right sides? (maybe they just want to make sure that their logo is right side up)

Also, is there anything specific about carbon shinai nakayui? I want to change the one currently on my shinai (because it's a crappy and very fuzzy nakayui). Is there a problem with doing that?

Thanks :)

Hello AlexM, of course it is OK ot rotate Hasegawa staves, in fact it is a good idea and will prolong the safe use of the shinai. The method is the same as for bamboo shinais, unless you are using an oval handle K1 or K2, in which case you can only rotate 180 degrees.

Lkewise with the nakayui, if you wish to change it - then do.

A word of warning, make sure that you are using the new type of rubber tip stopper on the Hasegawa, the thing that is inside the saki-gawa.

Have fun.

Thanks for the advice. I was just making sure.

Yes, I do have one of those new saki-gomu for carbons...

Yippee! My nakayui no longer looks like a fuzzy caterpillar! :D
