Translation help

Can someone make this into a snappy catchphrase?

気迫は技術に勝る

"A strong spirit defeats skill" isn't very catchy you see.

気迫 pretty hard to express in a single word. 烈しい is what I'm thinking of. Maybe passion?

Anyone can help gets 'nuff respect and a bottle of shochu next time they visit Kagoshima.

But that's not suitable for printing on a gigantic flag.

Perhaps we should combine them "gritballs vimspunk" is sounding pretty damn macho already.

I would opt for overwhelm myself. However, gritballs vimspunk would make a fantastic Engrish statement! :D

They'd probably sell well in Japan, where bizarre, nonsensical English "phrases" sell well.

Spirit over Technique (i.e. mind over body)

Technique is Surpassable by Spirit

Conviction will trump superior technique

Spirit trumps technique


I prefer:

Technique is Surpassable by Conviction!

and so on, and so forth….

It's for a commercial highschool's basketball team, so I kept it simple with "Spirit over skill". I don't think they can remember any complicated English, so that will have to do.

An english teacher I work with translated it as "strong spirits defeat skill" which made me laugh! I know that feeling!

This is a prime example of trying to translate something for a target audience, it's bloody difficlt even with short simple phrases.

The sports teacher did like the SPUNK idea. It is an all boys school, so it kind of fits :D
