Care to enlighten what the rotten state of Germany is? I have some ideas about it but I never guessed it would be pens and lighters that we're seeing on the pages.

My Japanese is real crap but what I picked out here and there.... are they discussing the "kendo" picture on the lighter??? The cheap, made-in-China BIC lighter? I feel like I'm missing something.
Can someone explain? :3
What's next? discussing how my hello kitty pink kendo phone charm (yes, I have one, so sue me, I'm a girl :P :P :P) doesn't stand in proper kamae??? xD

i just went through the whole article and i must admit i agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY with just about everything that guy in his post says...
it's very sad to have some stupid wankers who think kendo is cool come up with this kind of cheap merchandise....
is just as sad and ridiculous as engrish.com (reversed in this case). i mean, WTF is wrong with designers and ppl who come with this kind of uninformed and sad logos, brand names, mottos, images, designs, etc??? why does this seem universal? is it that hard to do even a minimal research? is that really too much to ask...??

I'm still confused as to what this made-in-China item rant has to do with Germany :3 Just cause he bought it in Berlin? Is he blaming the seller? Sorry but can someone help me out, my Japanese le sucketh!

Bah, shut up :P
Research is for geeks, not for the marketing deathsquad.
I want one of those almost as badly as I want a "You are the young and hopeless" Shirt.
Yea... and the "Tengo un Gato en mis Pantalones" shorts!

lol, just to clear things up. i wouldn't get offended by a stupid and cheap german-sold made-in-china lighter or whatever....
but perhaps, we must ponder... it starts with a lighter and how will it end up? oh wait, it already ended up in david beckham waving a "shinai" on a pepsi spot, and some wackos in bogu against football superstars on a nike(?) ad.... lol.
i mean, the "misuse" of kendo images and kendo stuff... seems to be getting worse with the day... and that, imho is not all that funny.... it's kinda sad for kendo actually. now, i truly respect if you guys don't give a flying f*ck about this whole: "let's bastardise kendo for our merchandise and ads!" thing going on... :D :D i mean, yeah... who cares... :P hehe.
cheersss.

"Something is rotten in the state of Denmark" is a quote from the Hamlet, a tragedy by William Shakespeare that I am just re-reading in these days. So, when I had to give a title to this thread the quote popped into my head and I decided to use it changing Denmark to Germany.
Obviously no offense was intended to Germany, a nation which I love and respect. We have been allies in the last world war and both great cultures with a lot in common to share.

I got your intention allright but I didn't get what the Japanese text was all about. I babelfished it and then got the hang of it. The guy may have a point that it would be sacrilege (sp?) to produce such lighters. Let alone use them when you practice Kendo (YOU KNOW WHO WE MEAN!!!)
But why I find this amusing is that we have the joke when we're around Germans that we don't mention the War. I also personally think that your cultures have not much in common and thank the Gods for that. It's not that the unholy alliance your talking about was such a succes for Italy. Or for Germany for that matter.
But I digress. I don't smoke so I don't care about lighters but I can imagine that a hard core Kendo zealot disapproves of lighters with funny kamae.:smiley::smoker:
Saluti a tutti.

Yep. I don't smoke too, and as a kendoka I'm not offended at all by those silly lighters, there are more important things one must worry about. I reported it because I finded it funny and kendo-related.
Gauw tot ziens.
