Sorry about the cross-post, but I didn't get a lot of response in the "training" section, sso I thought I'd post here. I tend to have sweaty hands, and to compound things, I'm only a month into Kendo. My tsuka-gawa gets very slippery during suburi, and sometimes I feel like I need to hold it too tightly for good technique just to keep it from flying out of my hands!
A yudansha at my dojo (I think he's Sandan,) thought it might be partially because of the cheap leather that came on my shinai. Do you all think that higher grade leather might help?

Same thing happened to me when I started.
Yes, it is possible the cheaper leather is getting more slippery and better leather may not get as slippery.
No, its not worth upgrading, once you start wearing kote you wont be sweating directly on the
tsukagawa anyway.
At least thats what happened in my experience.
