--------------------------

Hello,

San Diego Kendo Bu is inviting a high level sensei from Japan in March of 2004 so that kendoists in Southern California will have an opportunity to see one of Japan’s top sensei. Namely, we are inviting Nishikawa Kiyonori Sensei!

Nishikawa Sensei is not only a high-rank sensei (8-dan) but also a very strong kendo-ka. He won the all Japan Kendo tournament three times (1987, 1989, 1994). Also he won the all policement tournament three times (1980, 1982, 1988). Moreover, he won the 8-dan tournament! (2003). So, he is one of the best 8-dan sensei.

2 days of practice will be set aside and made available to participants including sessions for beginners (shiai waza kihon) and for those more advanced (Jigeiko).

San Diego Kendo Bu is attempting to fund the entire project including flight, lodging, local travel and entertainment, and practice hall rental. In order to raise funds for the event, SDKB is having a TEE SHIRT SALE.

Please print out the attached tee shirt order form and present to your sensei and dojo members before or after your practices. Actively ask that your dojo members help by purchasing one or more of these tee shirts. Every single shirt sold brings us one step closer to our goal. We hope that all kendoists can contribute to the cause, which may benefit all of us directly.

You can also download the form by clicking at the link below:

Additionally, please help us achieve our goal by forwarding this email to as many dojos as possible that you feel is appropriate and would understand the cause. Deadline for the tee shirt orders is November 29th. (Orders must be received by mail). If there are any questions or last minute orders, please contact Paul at pchen911@yahoo.com.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards,

Paul Chen

Thanks for your post sirfingerlickin..

I noticed that I forgot to include the definition of the kanji on the tee shirts pdf.

If anyone has questions about this, please refer to:

http://www.imakproducts.com/downloads/definition.pdf

Thanks again for looking everyone.... Please help pass the word if you know of a dojo that may be interested in helping!

-----------------------------------------

Definition of the Kanji - Mushin
A central precept of kendo is the concept of mushin, or mind of no-mind. This is a heightened state of awareness that is realized in combat to produce fluid thought and invulnerability to outside distraction. As fear arises from within oneself, one must first conquer inner disturbance before one can face an opponent. As mushin removes all extraneous concerns and focuses the individual upon the moment, the mind, body, and spirit function in a fluid harmony that transforms the separate entities into single action. The mind enters into a state of emptiness, as a cup waiting to be filled. This boundless force forms the central facet of mind that the kendo practitioner experiences while in practice.

Hi All,

Thanks for all those who supported the SDKB Gasshuku project. Especially to those who contributed by buying a tee shirt. We are happy to say that we have had some decent sale and are definitely moving forward with the seminar.

I would like to confirm with everyone who ordered a shirt that the item has been ordered and will be shipped out as soon as they arrive in our hands.

Please let me know if there are any questions.

Paul
