I recently got a new bogu, and I was wondering about how long, on the average, it takes for the dye to stop coming off everytime I touch the fabric.

Thanks.

Hi,

The die never really does stop coming off, until the day that it all comes off and ends up becoming white, it more likely slows down the more you use it. It took me about a month for the die to stop rubbing off alot, now it is hardly noticable on me, but I think its all a part of the experience of kendo. Well I just hope you enjoy being blue for a while, and you thought it was over when your gi stopped bleeding blue, haha.

I was told that a soak in a salt water, or vinegar and water bath would help set the dye. similar to how you treat your keikogi and hakama. but Yzakj is right, it never really stops coming off. I have had my bogu for almost 3 years and it still comes bleeds a small amount

Don't soak your bogu! It's not meant to be washed. Just put up with the blue for a while, it does stop.

mine finally started bleeding blue regularly after about 3 years.

i know this well.

i listened to 'smurf kendo' jokes for a long while.

....and did get my revenge when everybody else went through the process of buying a new bogu. :) heheh...

Our sensei says "being blue is one of the great joys of kendo."

I still feel funny walking through Stop and Shop all blue after practice. People must think I have some rare disease.
