Helloooooooooooooooooooo! allll!
I have another question to ask everyone.
Okay here we go.!! Are you with me? Stay with me okay..
I have a shinai at home and I will be going to my first kendo class in about
one week and a half. Do I really need to oil my shinai for my first class of
kendo or they will tell me how to take care of my shinai at the first class of
kendo?
It is not that I am too lazy to oil it, but shoul I wait to take my first kendo
class first just to see if they would have any good advice of what type of oil
to use for handdling shinai????

I would generally say that it is best to ask ones sensei for advice before initiating things you may learn "On-Line" Most of the time your instructor will not care if you use one oil or another. But it is best to at least ask first and let them state their preferences or ideas. After all, they are your sensei, not the people here. We usually cringe if someone comes in with a lot of ideas allready from the internet. But then, its only oiling a shinai. SOme dojo's preffer you to wax it with parifin.
Personally, I like butcher block oil, it dont go ransid! A little orange oil, bees wax carnuba etc. Vegetable oil is a no no.
my opinion.

1. Take it apart.
2. Dip in oil.
3. Go to class and tell them you took apart your shinai and don't know how to put it back together again.

First advice - ignore anything HaiHai says.
Second - you don't need to do anything, you won't be hitting any targets your first class. We don't even expect people to have shinai at all first class - we just lend them some old shinai we keep around for that purpose.

Well I remember taking my shinai home and taking it apart for the first time. You will quickly learn that taking things apart is very easy and putting them back together can be somewhat confusing (applies to just about anything).
I would suggest not taking it apart right away. Bring it with you to your class and ask either your sensei or sempai about shinai care. They might take you aside and show you how to take it apart, put it back together and what to look for in terms of regular maitenance. Or they might hold off and do it in a large group if you have lots of new students.
