View Full Version : Foot & ankle pain after seiza won't go away!

I was wondering if anyone has encountered this before.
Last Tuesday at the dojo we sat in seiza longer than usual, and I reached the point where I had to keep readjusting my feet and legs to stand the pain. Now, a week later the upper left part of my left foot hurts when I exert it in any way, including running, stretching and even somewhat when walking. I had a prolonged session last practice Saturday (three and a half hours) and ended up with the upper area of my foot swelling.
The swelling has now gone down and having a bandage helps.
Has anyone experienced this before or have any advice for a poor beginner like myself?
I cannot stand the notion of not being able to train this week, I am going to do what I can (pain allowing). :hurt:

I have never heard of that but if you are actually physically being injured from sitting in seiza for extended periods of time tell your sensei. They usually will excuse people will knee problems and what not.

Maybe you can ignore it, maybe you've really hurt something. I'd go see a doctor.

Exactly where on your foot is the pain and swelling? I had an "ankle sprain" that actually turned out to be a torn tendon so I have some limited experience in that particular area.

It was on the top left near the ankle, just below the leg.
I am probably going to see if I can get to a doctor to have a look at it. For now I will avoid anything too strenuous , and just do my suburi still
Thank you everyone for the advice!

Mine was right behind the ankle bone so it doesn't sound like the same thing. Lucky you!
Good luck!
