Anyone here get "white coat" syndrome at the doctor's office? During a checkup, I always ask the nurse to take my blood pressure twice, once at the beginning and once at the end of the appointment - the second is always lower without fail. My dad suffers from this as well, and he's an intensive care doc.
Well, I think I've developed Bogu syndrome. When we practice suburi in warmup or I'm hitting men/do/kote on someone blocking with a shinai, I have a much different swing than when I practice on someone wearing a bogu. My shoulders tend to get tighter, I take a larger step, I swing from my right hand sometimes, and the hits don't come off as well.
Our first kyu exam is in a little over two weeks from now, and while I don't think that'll ruin me, I'd like to eliminate the problem as much as possible. It's not physical intimidation - I'm a pretty big guy and the same happens when I practice on people smaller than me. Does anyone have advice on this?
