I want to know where I can find a good web page where I can read instruction to how to tie my hakama in a traditional girly way. I looked for it, cos once I saw the instructions, but I didn't find it again.

Help!

As far as I know, you'd tie it in the same way as a man does--that's how my senpai taught me, and the other ladies wear it just the same as the men. It might be different in some other art, but as far as kendo goes I believe it's all the same regardless of gender.

only difference I know is you tie it in a bow when not in tare and in a knot when in tare.

I've googled "traditional girly way" but came up with nothing (j/k :) )

lol. in modern japan girls do have a special hakama which is wore differently than men hakama. but it's only used by miko priests and girls graduating among other special ocasions afaik.

i think in budo, girls might as well tie their hakama in the same fashion men do. but as kitsune points, i DO have seen a lot of girls tying their hakama in a more 'cute' and elaborated way in kendo...

such as this:

http://kimonoo.net/ha-3.html

as opposed to a simple knot, which most men and kendo sensei i know in kendo use.... i do the simple knot thing as well. cause i'm a lazy bastard :D

cheers.

I might be wrong here, but that is how you tie it in iadio (for the first link at least), not kendo (with my limited experience practicing iai)

Yeah, the bow thing is used for iaido. For kendo, it just makes a more bulky knot under the tare that you can't see anyways.

Don't mind him, ever since bokushingu said he is pretty he's been acting weird :D

Joking aside, I have only ever seen the usual basic knot and the himo tucked into the sides, even on ladies

i was taught to tie the back string through the side before tying the front and square knot it. So that if we forget to tie the back, it will not expose our behind because we put it through the side.
