To quote the European Jodo Federation website (http://www.fej.ch/en/news.htm):
The way of the stick
Because of the numerous queries to which no answers were given due to the fact that the book is out of print since 2002, a Web specialist has scanned all the pages of the book. Pascal Krieger has not asked for this website. He asks everyone reading this to be well aware that the techniques shown in the book should not be taken for granted. Jodo evolved quite a bit since 1994, the year Nishioka Sensei, an early student of Shimizu Sensei, became Technical Advisor of the IJF. This book is uniquely a reference.

Dude!
I was reading my sensei's copy of this a couple of weeks ago. Even leaving out the technical descriptions, the background cultural stuff is really inspiring and interesting.
Thanks for posting this!

Is it in better quality than what has been available in a kind of flash-format previously? I've made a PDF for myself from that one, but it's not very good. A better scan would be really nice.

Its not a rescan, just a rearrangement. The first version of this PDF that was released a year ago (or something) had all the pages in the wrong order. It was also 147 MB in size. I simply extracted the old PDF and reshuffled them into the proper page-order..I also reduced the size to around 60 MB without reducing the quality.
*edit*
I didn't scan the original book...I'm afraid I dont even own the hardcopy..If I did I would prolly rescan it.

Oh, just a headsup: Should you see the same "bandwidth limit exceeded" message just keep trying. As of this minute it is online and working again.

Now that's what I call speed; 7.11 MB/s. Wish it could always be like that... BTW thanx for the PDF Fred!

Err.. on a friend's PC cos my motherboard is fritz so haven't looked at the link myself and apologise if I offend, but is this legal? Isn't Way of the Stick still in print? Don't get me wrong, I'm desperate for jodo literature but last thing I want is to damage the chances of more being produced cos half the jodo community just pirated one of the core texts...
If this is legit then a thousand apologies.

No need to worry. The book is out of print except for the occasional e-bay copy, and as I understood it there are no plans to reprint it. Pascal Krieger gave his permission to scan it and put it online. Actually the book has been online for a year or so already, but it was a bit messy and much larger in PDF size. This new release is simply restructored and reduced in size by yours truly. :)
