Pardon, Im a new poster here.
But i have a nagging, probably silly question. Im going to be attending my first class Thursday. But should I bring something as a gesture of goodwill? What should I bring to prepare myself for the class? I know in Japan its a good thing to do, but I no longer live there. I just wasnt sure about customs here and dont want to come off as a bad prospective student.
I would wait 4-6 months of continuous training before attempt to offer gift of any kind. Our dojo shows only 1 out of every 23 students stay over a year period. Last month we have 34 students sign up for the beginner class (Right after the release of KILL BILL) none lasted over 3 weeks. Although club benefit a $3060.00 surge this month . I look forward to the “donations” from release of LAST SUMURAI hehehe … j/k
Hope you are one that decided Kendo is for you, and hum..gift ideas?.....I think devotion may be the best gift you can give to your Sensei and Sempei.

Ye I think devotion is the best gift not only to ur sensei but also to other kendo players in ur dojo.
LOL!!!! Kill bill was very disappointting, the idea is fully twisted, I wanted to vomit during and after the movie, I fully regret that I ever watched the movie.

...and practice your suburi at home (1000 cuts a day they say), it'll show at the dojo.

Thanks for the responses :) Im sure you're probably right as well. Though i have no desire to see kill bill *chuckle* Last samurai probably, but not the other.
It just seems to me that the schools around here are in the business for the wrong reason. I need a dojo w/ a good philosoply then to try to rack up as many students and teach w/o consideration. Im hoping Kendo and this school will help with not only teaching correct abilities but also train me mentally as well as physically
I like Kill Bill :mad2: once awhile is great to see a brainless movie. I don’t think anyone in the forum expect to see real swordsmanship in any movie, especially in Kill Bill.
And be careful with those 1000 cuts… I prefer 100 (men/kote/do each) or less. Do it right, not till you drop. You can go for 1000 if is a stamina exercise.

1000 is a unrealistic number
I mean who has the time to 1000 everyday anyway, except if u r on holiday and have nothing to do (like me right now)
Movie: I am looking forward to see school of rock! Oh yeah!

Hmm, I shouldn't have posted the 1000 cuts/day thing, it's kind of
changed the subject of the thread. Sorry about that.
A couple of comments. Yes, do them correctly or not at all, don't hurry through
them. Start with fewer cuts and work your way up. I use it as a muscle control
excersize...it has helped my kendo. If it doesn't help you, then don't do them, or
do something different.
Personally, I don't think it's an unrealistic number, I get it done in about 20-25 mins.
I do 500, then a short break with some arm stretches then another 500. I use a
pedometer attached to a suburito to count for me. It's also a decent aerobic excersize.
Lastly, I'm not a doctor or excersize professional, get good council before altering your
excersize routine.

Are you kidding me? only 1000 Suburi, for beginner, 5000 is minimum.
Who said "Kill Bill" is not real swordmanship? If you can kill alot alot of men without thinking, that is the ultimate swordmanship man :dog:
