I just watched two of the films in the series. I was wondering if Ichi's sword style has a name or is derived from some classical school. Obviously, the back hand grip and cuts (for lack of a better description) is unusual and relates to nothing I have ever seen in Kendo.
The movies were a little slow but I enjoyed using the slo mo to watch the sword scenes. Eventually, I concluded they look better fast as breaking them down showed the flaws.

I like the Zatoichi flicks.. I don't know if this is available everywhere in the States, but they show a lot of Zato on "Samurai Saturday"s on the IFC (Independent Film Channel)..
Very cool.

Actually, you can get Zatoichi quite easily in the states if you don't mind forking over some bucks and waiting... I managed to see all eight movies in DVD format with english subs from an online place called netflix. They ship it to your door and stuff...
