HI everyone, let say you can build your own allstar team who would pick including you? Let's keep Eiga and miyazaki unavailable...also what would be the line-up
example:
1- Yourself
2- Ando
3- Asaoka
4- Saito
5- Sato

Lol. I had never considered the possibility of fantasy kendo.
Jonathan
P.S. I am not familiar enough with kendo players to answer the question you posed.

I'm starting to like the idea of making up fantasy kendo teams... even though I don't know enough about the individual players. No way to make like a betting pool on this.
But making a Japanese team is too obvious. You need to complicate things:
A) An All-KW message board team
B) An All-(insert your home town, state, province, federation, country name here) team
C) An All-European team
D) An All-8th dan team
E) An All-star team comprising at least one nito and one jodan
F) An All-star team made up of at least one mudansha, one woman, one shodan and one person over 50 years old.
G) An All-Non-Japan team... Think that such a team could beat the Japanese?

i'd go for
1)Mori Daiki (not sure how he is nowadays)
2)Ishida Kenichi for taishou
3)Iwasa Hidenori
4)Ando Kaigo
5)Sato Mitsunobu

Here to make add some guideline to help you guys a bit:
You can have 7 players, 5 starters and 2 sub. Amon 7 player, you must include yourself, another player from your club, you can only add 2 player that are part of the ACTUALTeam Japan (except eiga and miyazaki). Add 2 other guy from your country and any sensei or guy who do other stance than chudan. so it make 7.
does it make sense?
have fun!

A kendo world forum team? We made one.
Senpo-Tenken (Jodan)
Jiho-Mr.IkuIku (Seigan/Nito)
Chuken-Moocow65 (Nito w/House of Pain, Matrix, and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Kamae)
Fukusho-Mr.KuruKuru (Seigan w/Bunny Men and KuruKuru Men/Hasso Kamae)
Taisho-Tenken's Brother (Seigan w/Tengoku Men)
Alternate-M_French (Seigan w/French Kiss)
I forgot the other guys' signature moves. But there you go. The SCI/Kendo World Forum Team. Look in the Misc.Events forum and the thread "SCKF at the PNKF Tournament in Nov?" Our picture is posted up by Tenken. The beautiful thing is that we are from around the world! USA, Venice, Japan, and of course Zimbabwe!

The So. Cal. people get extra points for actually MAKING a real team and competing with it...
The All-Quebec-KW forum team would be:
Kendokamax, fukkenlazy, Stan, Saki-wooah and AlexM (in that order).
My All-star team would be:
1.Mitsunobu Sato (team Japan)
2.Kaigo Ando (team Japan... gotta love that tsuki)
3.Kendokamax (dude from my club)
4.S.Kamata (dude from my "country")
5.M.Doré (also dude from my country)
6.Chinen aka Tenken (dude that does something other than chudan)
7.myself
Needless to say that Max and I are the two alternates on such a team. Although, L.D'Orangeville always beats him in competitions, maybe I should rethink my choice.
Team KW???
Moocow65 (Team USA)
Tenken (Team USA)
amatsuda (Team USA)
Alex aka Dr. Bennet (Team kiwi)
Iwatekenshi (heard he's good) or Ben (high ranking) or Honda (also high ranking)... I'm probably forgettig some people.
I've decided against picking alternates for such a team... especially since I have never seen the kendo of any potential subs.
I would have put T.Ariga on my team but he's only posted once.
I'm thinking way too much about this.

hahaha this is funny
My fantasy team would be !
1. Myself
2. Ando (Really like his kendo)
3. Shoudai ( young guy who was doing Jodan in all japan)
4. Kozeki (cool strong kendo)
5. Loic D'Orangeville (guy from my club, the guy who won against Neil in the canadian championship in team matches:D )
6. Martin Dore (Strongest kendoka in Quebec Canada)
7. Suguru Asaoka (Strongest kendoka in Canada, was best 8 in the World championship 2 or 3 times)
The sub players would Ando and Kozeki! PLaying agaisnt the actual Team Japan we would get our ass kick the first time but the next time they would be french toast.

This is for our federation.
Our mens team would be hmm... It would have to include hamamatsu, matsuda, onitsuka, and minami. Lessee.. The next inline would be (not in this order) T. Mikuni, G. Mikuni, K. Michioka, G. Kim, etc. I'm not sure if T. Nishimoto plays anymore.
Our womens team would have to include R. Mikuni, K. Kikunaga, L. Tanaka, N. N. Nishimoto(i'm not sure if she plays anymore either) and M. Abe-Koga. The next would be A. Aono, A. Nakamori and I can't remember anybody else. I'll probably add as my memory comes back to me..

I think maybe the Hao's of Toronto (Koji, Chiharu, Kazuhiro?, Hao sensei and the 5 one... who's name escapes me) could take on the Marstens. There's one Team Canada member in that group.
Also the Kamata's (Kyotaka, Shigemitsu, the little sister, Kamata sensei.. and they've got to have a 5th family member somewhere)... Keep in mind that group of four includes two team Canada members and one current WKC judge (he gave that penalty to Itokazu in teams versus Korea I think :D ).
The Asa's of Toronto are 1 shy of a team though (Bryan, Shane, Andrew and Roy).
Those are th only family teams I can point to...

Alright, let's have a family tournament. I have some friends in Japan and all 5 in the family do kendo. I'm pretty sure there are a couple in California that could put together a team (Chinens, Hosokawas, others?). Anyone else out there? Europe maybe? This could be really fun.
I had a match with one of the Asa brothers at Steveston once. Never met up with the others.

MOOOOOO!!!! Yeah I remember that penalty. I slam the Korean dude's shinai on the shiaijo and I get the penalty? Had to settle for a tie because I didn't want to risk getting another hansoku and losing the match. I was planning on winning that match if he got the hansoku. The Canadian judge, who shall remain nameless, was just bitter that we beat his team. HAHAHAHAHA just kidding. I guess the hansoku could have gone either way, BUT he was the one who dropped his shinai. Well, whatever I should keep quiet. In the PNKF team taikai this past November, I actually lost my daito. The shinai flew up in the air, I then blocked a men with my shoto, we were then in tsubazariai, the shinai landed on my shoulder, I grabbed it with my free hand, and NO HANSOKU. HAHAH. You win some and you lose some I guess.

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! right back to you... (I use "moooo!" to "inspire" the noobs to actually do kiai)
I think Kamata sensei gave you the penalty because he thought you had yanked the Korean guy's shinai out of his hands thanks to your dildo.... I mean shoto... oops. :D That's what he seemed to be gesturing to the other judges about anyway. I think he called the "gogi" too if I'm not mistaken.
Although I can't read lips he also seemed to be saying: "Penalize that bastard Itokazu because he managed to tie my son, Shigemitsu, in his last match! That will teach him to mess with a Kamata!". And then seemed to curse your name in Japanese.
Either that or he was discussing what to buy as a wedding gift for a close friend. I believe the Italian judge juggested candle sticks (300 points for guessing what movie that comes from).
And you thought that this thread could get no sillier.
Actually, does anyone know if Kamata-sensei would have been eligible to referee a match against someone who had beaten his son?

I just had a thought... about fielding a team in the same family at the WKC.
Statistically speaking we already got a few at the last WKC (infomation based in the 12th WKC catalogue)... Though I am not sure wherther they are just of the same last name, or just relatives, or married... Here's a list of them (I cancel out some of the people I think they don't look alike :p ) :
Australia: 3 Smith (okay wait, Smith is a v common lastname... dear Aussies please clarify)
Brazil: 2 Onaka, 2 Toida
Canada: 2 Ariga, 2 Katama
France: 2 Soulas
Hawaii: 2 Meija, 2 Fujimoto
Hungary: 2 Kiraly
Mexico: 2 Flores (didn't turn up...)
New Zealand: 2 Bennett (!)
Romania: 2 Craciunel
Spain: 3 Castro
USA: 2 Yang, 2 Yoshimura

Moocow65,
You caught it?? That's amazing!! I can't make any comments on a team because I'm a beginner but this thread is really funny. And, when I saw this, I had to reply! That's a one in a million chance of such a thing happening, and ending up being able to continue with no hansoku. Wow... I know I'd never have been able to catch it like that. And, it's amazing it flew up in the air like that in the first place! Hope you caught that on video... :D
