i've just got back from my first kyu-tournament (23rd November Belgische Kyukampioeneschap)...
and i just wanted to say it was GREAT, i was in the technique category, which meant i just did men kirikaeshi, then uchikomi, no shiai...
I lost 2 but also won 2 matches, not THAT good, but im pleased with it, (rest of my life to get better eh?)...

i'd just like to thank everybody in this forum, my sensei, and everybody else in this world who does kendo :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin:

im not sure why, but i think kendo is the best thing in the world, and that everyone that does it, deserves some credit,

so... lots of thanks :nervous: :grin: :nervous: :grin: :nervous:

Congratulations, mystic!

I haven't seen the technique category before in tournaments (but I'm only a beginner).

Could you please give a little more detail on what is involved in this category? When you say "matches" I assume that you and a partner did kirikaeshi (or whatever else) and the one who had better technique won?

hmm... well, this tournament was intended for beginners, there were shiais and team shiais, but to make sure that EVERYONE could participate, there was also the technique category, this is what happened;

first we do re, sonkyo etc. shimpan says kirikaeshi hajime, then we do kirikaeshi, then we wait, judge says uchokomi hajime, we do uchikomi, then the three shimpans, give points, and whoever has 3/3 or 2/3 flags in their favour wins

and the judges would score points for you, depending on, your accuracy, your footwork, your kiai, your actual swing, your speed, your spirit and gave u points for it, so for 2 of my matches i got 3/3, and for my last match i only got 1 point...
