It would be totally boring. The nito player would get ruined and the match would be over.

i just went through your site, and well.. most of it isnt true,
firstly ninja's arent ultimate powers, if they were they'd be used in wars,
they're actually more like assassins we have in europe,
they were people who were not wealthy and had to risk their lives for money,
other rich people who valued their lives would send in assassins (ninjas) to kill someone,
and ninjas hardly ever cut people's heads off, they believed that spilling blood was cruel because in buddhism one that died by spilling their blood was a sin and would be condemned
which is also why they preferred to use bokkens or bokutos, which are wooden swords, if used properly these can kill people by breaking blood vessels, or bones, but no blood is spilt,
and the picture you have on ur site, is not a sword a ninja would use, a ninja generally uses a straight sword, becaues its easier to hide, less dangerous to themselves as it is less sharp, and lighter, the sword u have there, is a wakizashi, a short katana, this is used by samurais...
speaking of samurais, they really are this ultimate power you talk of, these were nobles trained from the age of 5 the arts of swordmanship and war, while ninja's were commonmen that decided to learn to use a sword at about the age of 20~30, a samurai always carries 2 swords, also a samurai is more honourable as he has a big head and believes that he has to be an example, a ninja however is a peasant, just trying to get money, so he will use any traps/tricks he can to win, while a samurai would rather die than do something dishonourable...
and there are NO ninjas in the present day, wat you heard were either lies, or people who did kendo or iaido, got a sword then went insane believing he was an insane psychopath and killed people, but i'd say you were told lies
also if you want to become a 'ninja' i suggest you go and look for some clubs that teach ninjitsu, (which is the art ninja's did)

has anyone ever done keiko with a naginata person before? we used to do it in so cal before the gardena team tournament, but we dont have that shiai anymore. I think nito would kill naginata becausae you can slide up on them like the #3 kata for shooto. Well some naginata people ( i guess they are girls/women) want to throw down with us SCI people and i was looking for some tips. I do not want to get hit on the ankle or the doo where they poke you with the end of the stick. maybe i could tsuki them..but i don't know, sooo any one have any kinds of tips?

I do not want to get hit on the ankle or the doo where they poke you with the end of the stick. You don't have to worry about the do tsuki move, that is only done in kata. As for you ankles don't be a sissy, it happens everyday.
I think the best thing to do is just try your best to get past the ha-bu (bamboo portion) and then just stick with nice clean men or tsuki. What you need to watch out for (depending on the player) is sune and tsuki. Men and kote uchi are nothing that any kendo-ka can't handle. One thing you could do is when they go for sune just bring your foot up and once the cut has passed under move in and hit their men.
Well some naginata people ( i guess they are girls/women) want to throw down with us SCI people Most of the senshuu in SoCal are guys I believe but that doesn't make a difference; I've seen highschool girls mop the dojo with some big kendoka. Actually if you tell me who you are going up against I can tell you what to look out for. I used to train in Torrance and Gardena. If you are going up against Nathan Scott and/or Kevin Saxton you have got your work cut out for you. Anyone else I don't think would be a problem for a 5-dan. Have fun! Wish it were me!

Sorry for the double post, I clicked the wrong button...
Anyways, I was going to say that a naginataka's greatest advantage and disadvantage (in isshu-jia) is the same thing, length. They can pick you off from far away but the ha-bu is only about 1.5 ft. once you get in close the naginataka is screwed. Check out the other threads in the naginata section about isshu-jia.

returning to main theme.... nito vs naginata
Seems its useless to stand as a nito againts a long ranged weapon.Naginata tsuki rulez. However Nito or chudan would own in close combat,if you can get close enough your opponet before get yourself killed(ippon :rambo: ).

thanks for the tips! wow saxton is still around huh...i remeber he did kendo at torrance a long long time ago, good stuff. i wonder if i could hit them on the sune( is that whats its called?). oh i am not being a wuss abut that, its just something kondo people are not used to, so i don't want to leave that part wide open thats all. how well do you think harai tsuki would work or justa straight kata te tsuki?

I know it's kinda off subject but, any advice on how a Jyo-dan will fight a naginata? Just wondering.

No problem. Yeah, Kevin doesn't really have the time to do both kendo and naginata but he still kicks butt at kendo. If he is there ask to practice with, he probably really happy to practice with someone for a change.
Yeah you can hit sune. It looks like a do cut that is brought down to gedan. If you don't know how to do it would suggest avoiding it for two reasons. 1) You won't get the point since it is rarely taken anyway and 2) Someone else posted this but I hear that kendoka who have gone for sune ruined some peoples knees.
About being a sissy... I was just bustin' your balls. Didn't mean anything by it.
I think kata-te tsuki would work fine. It would give you some extra reach. As for harai tsuki, if you can make up the distance after you harai go for it.

Who cares? The subject of the thread is ridiculous anyways.
I have not done kendo long enough to really say how effective joudan or nito would be. I am just thinking about what I would do if I were up against a joudan or nito player. I would tsuki and go for sune. Seem like those two are wide open to me. Someone may go for do but I doubt anyone I trained with would bother. If you see someone go into wakegamae they trying to hit your do. Pretty much, if see them go into hasso or waki or if their chuudan seems weak just nail them.
Like I said before, the only two people you are going to have to watch out for are Nathan Scott and/or Kevin Saxton (if they are there). They are the only two I know of with kendo experience, so they know what they are up against.
hhmmm... it's getting warm in here. Sorry about all of the hot air.
