Does anyone have any experience with men that have ear vents?
They don't have a hole all the way through the men, the exterior cloth is intact, but there are circular spots with no padding in them.
Do they work well? Do they hurt more when you get hit in the side of the head?
Just being curious really.

I’ve never seen them on a kendo men but only those white men the police use for their taijutsu training. I’d be interested in giving it a try as my hearing is quite poor already, so when I’ve got my men on I’m pretty much deaf. It would also probably help regulate heat build up.

I've got one. It has four holes in a diamond-shaped pattern for each ear. They don't go all the way through, as you already said, because cloth is still covering these areas. I think it doesn't do much on filtering out heat...and as far as ear shots, it hurts like hell, but I've always had the same men, so I don't know if it would hurt any less with a men that didn't have holes under the cloth by the ears.

Hope there's some righteous Heavy Metal in your playlist, Maestro!
(And no.. Quiet Riot does NOT constitute Heavy Metal... Metalists have more than one hit... :D)

Well, a lot of guys may hear but they just don't seem to listen (absorb) too well, so I'll bet some of the ladies in these forums have boyfriends like that.

Most of marriaged men develops ear vent real good. When they don't want to hear something from the wives, they just open the vent and everything coming from this ear will come out from the other ear. Nothing stays behind, therefore they will not remember anything the wives say:laugh:

Sorry, no pics. I'd need permission for that and I doubt it would be forthcoming. Can't find one online either.

Maybe somebody with better Japanese than yours truly :D can find a diagram of it on the site...if not, I can scan my catalog of it.

Sorry, the photo is so small on the catalog where it talks about the ear vents you can barely make it out...I doubt it'll show up on the scan.

I like the ear protection (probably prevents damage to eardrums), but I am afraid I really don't like the look of the men

does anyone know if these karate men are thick enough for kendo? at the college i went to there was a large deaf, and hard of hearing community. A few of the kohai made it to bogu, but they had cochlear implants and hearing aids that got in the way when putting on men.
have to agree those men look funny with the ear piece though. "just a thought but wouldn't the sound of plastic hitting a shinai that close to you ear might do some harm. What do you guys think?
...."oh no i think this might turn into a "new type of men" (http://www.kendo-world.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17419&referrerid=15288) thread"....

I've come across a couple of ear protectors for kendo bogu, here's the one from Sankei: http://www.zen-sankei.com.au/onlineshopping/product_info.php?cPath=21_54&products_id=305&refid=99XvxjCm3iRhs8uIMq25m7UfElprpEpv&osCsid=3ce5257c8b11585e39a1b7593eb4c2a0
I can't seem to find the other one again, which looked like a better design (complete guess on my part) but that pad had a hole for the ear and a channel out of the pad for air to escape. Has anybody tried this sort of ear protector or know where to find the it?

You don't happen to know any store in US that sell this Sankei style ear padding do you? $12 shipping is a bit too much for a $20 product, but I could use something like this.

I don't, I think I found the other kind on a japanese or korean site so the shipping probably won't be better. I also have no idea if this pad makes things better or worse. If you end up getting one, I hope you'll comment on it's comfort and safety.
