You know when you have done kendo for a while when:

You have more tenegui than underwear
You actually memorized the meanings of the pleats in the Hakama
You actually have dreams/nightmares about matches on a regular basis
Your bathtub is stained blue
Your coworkers/parents/wife get used to the smell of your equipment and stop complaining about the smell.

Can't think of anymore for now... :)

You know when you have done kendo for a while when:

* Your wife/Girlfriend/Husband/Boyfriend can recite all your "great" kendo stories.

* They develop a set of answers to your day after training. eg. How was kendo? uhuh. really. mhum. cool. nice. really? a kote-men? etc

* Your partner manages to "beat off" a mugger with an umbrella.

* You actually time yourself when disassembling and reassembling a shinai (you know, like them army boys).

heh...

You know when you have done kendo for a while when..

..you notice that if you tatoo an anchor in your forearm it'd look just like popeye's.

.. when you accidentally bumps into someone you say 'gomen nasai'

.. you start asking for things with 'onegai ishimas'

KhawMengLee

how 'bout this:

* you could hop across burning hot coals on your left foot.

heh

...I don't know about you guys.....but I think i'm a freak

sometimes when i walk on the sideway i do fumi komi ...quite often actually...my friend was so annoyed by it and he thought i was a retard...
when no one is looking....i also do fumi komi.....

Also when there is a lot of people walking on the street I imagine how I would do a men uchi on top of their head...

Also.... 1-2 hours after practice..I start missing kendo...and want to do practice again.. so I end up watching a zen nihon or world championship video tape.

I guess it is fun....

Yes, when I was in school, I also used to practice fumikomi walking to and from class! My buddies were also kendo freaks, so they didn't mind.

I think sleeping with your bokuto or shinai would go under 'Signs that you have done too much kendo'. :)

alexpollijr
1st August 2002, 02:37 AM
I dont' think so

It should go under signs that you've been in a lisergic (bad) trip and haven't realized it yet.

That's too much folks.

I stand corrected.

Wow, according to the poll, we have a very young board. Makes me feel old, but happy to see that kendo is gaining popularity.

It is interesting that we have such strong and well presented opinions from such young players. I think this maybe due to the nature of Kendo which is to reflect on the many aspects of the sport and the art. Still I am surprised that we have so many knowledgeable members considering their age and experience. I have been studying kendo for around eight years and I still have more questions then answers. I take it that will never change, and that is exactly why I love it!

Well, the response rate is only about 33% (out of all active users on the forum). So maybe the other 66% of active users balances out the young'uns...?

I've been doing Kendo for approximately 3 years (3 this september) @ 6-8 hours/ week. Got my Shodan this June just past. yay!

Steve.

I'm hosting a pity party for Kenshin, at the Pig and Whistle in Sendai, Miyagi-ken, Japan, in October. Make sure you all show up. After we're all suitable drunk and feeling bad for Kenshin, we'll all go practice kendou by the hirose river, where I do my solo practice! That should be almost dawn, then we can cach a train to the onsen and get even MORE drunk. By then Kenshin should be totally sloshed, and we can fob him off on some poor Japanese girl!

sounds like a plan?

c

ps - i actually live near some awesome onsens. though i have no idea how to get there by train, my friend usually takes me in her car.

Arrrrggghhhhh!!!! I miss Onsen!!!! A little hot sake makes it better....sigh...I'll just make do with my bathtub...:(

Also...we could fob Kenshin off to Thailand...I gots some traders that would pay good cash for a strapping young english boy...heehee

if i'm hosting, i'd rather have it in my own country thanks. Anyway, start buying those plane tickets, you know you want to attend a pity party! Twice as fun as a funeral, and you don't even HAVE to wear black! I promise i'll even wear a kimono.
*snicker*

Cool! Hey, I got one of those happy suits, you know...the sort of thing sushi chefs and cooks and waiters wear. I got it from a pub I got drunk at. (NO, it wasn't like the time I got drunk and woke up with a policeman's hat...I got given this one)

Meng, you're the only other one on at the moment... please say you'll come too? I am only HOSTING the party, and this is not Castle Anthrax!

I did specify that this was a pity party, not a dungeon party? Though if you'r einto that, there is a venue in Sendai that works quite well for such things. it's a cool place too. Creepy and campy at the same time.

ANTHRAX!!!! Yew!!! What a great band!

I'll be in!!! Just gotta get the cash!

Meng

I can't disagree there, but I was thinking more along the lines of 'Castle Anthrax' from Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail'. "First the spankings..." However, there will be no spankings, as this is not castle anthrax.

You do realize, that between the three of us, we've managed to toally destroy this thread? How rude. My apologies to all concerned. Thos responsible have been sacked.

O wait. Meng and Kenshin and I are still here. We forgot to sac ourselves. It was a slight oversight, really it won't happen again! At least not until the next time Meng starts another conversation. It's all his fault, really. My invitation to the pity party wasn't meant as a conversation starter, honest.

John Cleese can't spoil a thing... he can only make it better
