Linky (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-10-14/oshii-develops-writes-musashi-miyamoto-samurai-film) from ANN. I'm not really a fan of samurai anime but I really enjoyed Ghost in the Shell and the same director for GITS is working on this one so I think it'll be pretty cool.

Excellent news. Big fan of period action drama anime here. I hope the fight choreography would be grounded in reality like in Seirei no Moribito rather than super-human.

First of all can't wait for this, it should be great. But I agree that they have to keep it real.

Too bad we already see an image of Musashi leaping 20 feet in the air, quite superhuman already.
But again, fiction/anime>reality when it comes to such, no point in arguing the reason we make the former to begin with. However, I'd rather see them do Vagabond *cough*

Exactly. It's anime, you can't expect reality, that would be boring. A real duel would last what? .3 seconds? Who wants to watch that?
That said, I like the GITS series in terms of animation, visual style and intelligent dialogue that makes you think about things. So, I'm sort of hoping that the staff will do similar things with this.

Oh please. I know you're bored with the current crop of ninjers and this ought to give you some new playtoys for at least another year.

Great. More myths (http://www.nitenichiryu.co.uk/musashi-myths.htm) to we'll have to dispel.

Realistic != boring
Where super human strength and speed actions are the norm in anime, a bit of realism could be a fresh breath of air. After watching so many animes, the non-realistic fights are rather boring to me.
I meant it in the sense that the fight sequence should be plausible. The fight could still be choreographed and exaggerated to look epic. If you look at the fights in Seirei no Moribito or Shigurui, they are amazing yet people were still moving like real human beings instead of Super Saiyans. A good director like Ridley Scott or Michael Mann can shoot amazing firefight sequences without resorting to giant unrealistic Michael Bay style explosions or contrived situations. The skill of the artist matters a lot more than the source material.
The only problem with that is it take a significant amount more work. IG has the capability to do it, it's just a question of how much time and money they gonna invest on this project. It could be amazing like Ghost in the Shell, or shit like Le Chevalier D'Eon.

Kyuzo's duel in Seven Samurai? Brief, but far from boring.
Final duel in Sanjuro? Almost worn a hole in the DVD rewatching that one.
I know, I know, not anime, wouldn't work, bring on the flying swordsmen. Where's that copy of Samurai Champloo got to?
