I've been thinking about hanging my hakama at home to let it air out a bit; I figure I could use one of those square frames with lots of clips to hang it open for circulation. Seems like it would do better than letting it sit folded until the next practice.
Anyone else try that? Does it affect the folds of the hakama much? Any better suggestions?

you could peg the pleats down if you wanted too. i think that's what my mummy did when she was airing it out.

You've only started thinking about it? I thought everyone hangs up his gi / hakama to dry and air them out between practices?
I've been hanging up my hakama between practices since day 1 of my kendo. That's nearly 10 yrs ago. No, it hasn't affected the pleats at all.

I wash mine in the washing machine after each and every practice.
Then I either put it in the dryer or leave it out to hang on a regular hanger with clips.
I have never had any problems with the pleats. Hakama are extremely easy to care for. I also iron in the pleats after washing to keep shape.
It's much easier than you think, and don't be worried to try.
Keeping your Hakama and Keiko-gi fresh and clean is essential not only for hygiene, but the life of your items, and as a courtesy to your fellow kendoka.

I've only started thinking about it because I've only used this hakama twice, though I was planning to wash it regularly.
