Have any of you guys been to the weekend budo seminar held in Chiba before?

I was just curious as to what you thought of it and what kinds of things they teach. Seeing as it's only 5000 yen plus travel I'm really interested in going.

Any other info such as the general structure of the weekend and amount of lecture vs. practical time would be appreciated as well.

There was an article about this in a previous issue of KW mag. But you're a subscriber so you knew that...

I'd say this was the definition of a no-brainer. Go and be happy.

Indeed...the only thing that might throw a wrench into the plans is I'm going to be a father next month and my wife expressed a definate interest in the seminar as well. I don't think they'd be too happy if we brought the little guy along which means finding a babysitter for the weekend or one of us stays home and is VERY unhappy.

A friend of mine went last year and said she enjoyed it very much.

I didn't apply last time because, for whatever reason, the organizers didn't include either iai or jodo in the seminars. No tankendo either, come to think of it. I guess those arts which are administered by parent organizations get the shaft.

I went last year but actually couldn't do anything (training), I was just recovering of an illness and there were many activities I would love to try. So I'd recommend you to go if you can and have the time for it, you won't regret and will have a good time with the attendants.

Is your friend a girl that practices naginata? I didn't meet another person from Nagano, but I don't know if in the semminar were others from there.

That's her. And yes, she lives and works in the same rural Nagano town I do.

Ah good. There was she and another girl (from Niigata) apart of a friend of me doing naginata and we had chance for some keiko. I really enjoy isshojiai and I'm always open to it whenever I got the chance. Is a shame that tehre is not naginata groups where I'm now :S

I remember there mett one yankee guy, he was just a jodo and I think iaido too student. He enjoyed that though I guess it could get pretty boring if there are not poeple doing your martial art when the time for keiko with senseis was for "do everyone his/her martial art time".

Maybe you should give it a chance and try the semminar this time
