Hello. My name is Ookami, and I am a fifteen year old female from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For a while now, I've been interested in perhaps learning the art of kendo or something similar, even though I am a very timid person by nature and would probably be afraid of getting badly injured, or something like that.
Regardless, I still want to try. But I am afraid I don't know where to start... if someone could please offer me links to some good general kendo sites, and perhaps let me know if there are any places to train near to me? I've looked all over but I have not found anything yet.

You are perfect for kendo. Kendo will help you build up your spirit! And eventually, you'll be wearing bogu which protects very well. Lots of women do kendo, too! So don't be afraid!

Unless something recently has developed in Milwaukee, the only schools registered with the All-US Kendo Federation in Wisconsin are:
East West Connection
Franklin, WI
Contact: Charles Cottrill (414)425-5114
University of Wisconsin Kendo Club
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Natatorium, Gym Unit II
2000 Observatory Drive
Madison, WI
M Th 6:30pm-8:00 pm
Contact: Mark Thomas (608)265-9150
Of course, If Chicago is not too far a drive for you, there are several schools there! .. You can look at http://www.auskf.info/mainpages/auskfmain.htm to search for a school that might be near you.
Good luck!

Hi!
Welcome to the forum Ookami!
There is also a dojo in LaCrosse, WI. My sensei knows where the dojo is, and I'll post the info when I get a reply from him. I searched everywhere, but I guess they don't have a site yet.
Oh, don't worry about being afraid. You'll love it! Just be patient, and give yourself time. You'll have fun!
