Hello everyone,
How would you best describe the feeling of Chuden-no-kamae (e.g., dark assassin, cloak and dagger, Babe Ruth, etc.)? Some would infer the feeling of Jodan-no-kamae as fire, for example. Inducing that the jodan player kamae should emanate confidence, power, and immovability, i.e., fire. Is or are there any historical reference explaining the feeling in taking on chuden-no-kamae?
Thanks again.

I have seen something that may help address what you're looking for in two separate books:

The first is Inoue sensei's book on kata on sale here through KW. The other (and containing some overlapping information) is Paul Budden's, "Looking at a Far Mountain". Perhaps this thread (http://www.kendo-world.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14861&highlight=Far+Away+Mountain) could be useful to you. Good luck.

That said, keep an open mind.

For me, a proper chuudan-no-kamae exudes a feeling of solidarity and preparedness. At least, that's how I feel when I see sensei do it, especially in kata.

If you want to get into the kanji, it is "water." Chudan can change drastically between defense and offense, and it can be both at once. Like Rainmaker said, it's a bit like an ocean-wave. From a good opponent, you can feel their energy washing over you.
