New Bogu?????

My Bogu arrives on wednesday. Is there anything I ned to do to it in prep for my first class. Do you really wax the do, do you sacrifice virgins, dance around it naked??? What do you do. I will of course take these all with a grain of salt. Thanks for you help.

Tie the himo on before class so you don't have to bother at class. There are good instructions online, such as here (http://www.mushinkankendo.com/lesson_bogu.html). I think those are the ones I followed and my sensei seemed to think I had done it right (and nothing's fallen apart yet).

FYI, our sensei teaches the second method under the heading of "Tying the Doh-himo: Method Two." of tying the Do.

Whatever you do DON'T use black shoe polish on the do . . . your classmates or sensei will not be impressed when they get black marks on their shinai ( don't ask how I know :emb: )

I am not fit nor am i a girl. Sorry. And i wont use shoe polish ever again. I had a bad incident that involved shoe polish. I was going to a last minute halloween party and wanted to go as a SWAT Officer. I applied shoe polish to my face as I had seen in the movies. Really cool pattern too. over the next 10 min, while driving, my face begins to burn like hell. I ended up washing my face in a mobil gas station bathroom. Needless to say the tanning acid in the shoe polish had basically sunburned the "Neat Pattern" into my face. it stayed with me for a couple days. No more shoe polish for me. The kicker is I work in the video film industry and know not to believe everything i see on TV.
