What's the difference between a Naginata and a Kendo bogu?
I know those who do naginata wear sune-ate too, but apart from that......

Kote - a solid mitt for kendo & a split mitt for Naginata. The split mitt facilitates grip changes which is unknown in Kendo.
Men - for Naginata, the flaps are a bit shorter and curl forward in front of the shoulders. Also the Nodo, throat tab, is more stout. Until a few years ago, a Tsuki with the Ishizuki (butt end) was legal. Now the only remaining legit. Tsuki is with the Kissaki.
FYI, when I began Naginata I wore used Kendogu plus Sune-ate. I eventually bought Naginata-style Kote, but I have not bought a Naginata-style Men.

The "side flaps" of the men are shorter with the naginata bogu.
And the kote are different, with naginata the kote have a seperate index finger.

You're welcome.
P.S. I would not use Naginata-style Kote for Kendo practice - there is a bit less padding with the split mitt; however, they are fine for engaging in Isshu Jiai.

As mentioned, the flaps on the men are shorter, the kote are different (hooray for opposeable thumbs!) and the sune-ate.
As I have found out in some other thread that www.bogubag.com (http://www.bogubag.com) specifically sells the specialty men for naginata. I am currently eyeing a set for myself. Quite reasonable pricing as I already have naginata kote (mmm old & stinky) and as such can be omitted from the package thereby lowering the cost!
